speedo not working anymore
Hi guys,
recently my speedo stopped working, but I don't think it's the cable as I've been told in this case you got a check engine light on. In this case no check engine light on juste the speedo no longer working. Anyone has got an idea? thanks my car is an v3 1997 impreza sti. Daniel |
V3 is a cable driven speedo so I dont think it would throw check engine up if it had broken/come unfastened. My guess would be that its just come loose at gearbox end or behind clocks.
Release cable from gearbox end then remove clocks and check connection on the back of the clock. Put it back together in reverse - gearbox end last. :) |
It should throw a cel as the vss is in the clocks themselves. It will probably not rev over iirc 3k maybe 4k unless you've an aftermarket ecu.

Looking down into engine bay from O/S front wing - below Clutch Master Cylinder. Speedo cable has the orange rubbers on.

I just checked and cable seems right...still connected to gearbox...I think it maybe loose at clocks...i've no idea how to remove the clocks O_O...i'll ask my mechanic to do that.

To make life easy for yourself so you don't have to remove clocks which can end up being a pain in the a***e getting back in if you split the cable just above the box and push the car forward you should see the cable spinning slowly. Then get someone inside and spin the cable to the clocks and they should move/flicker. Dont loose the clip where you split the cable :norty: Good luck. Clocks are easy to remove to star screws under fascia remove then then three on clocks behind fascia two at the bottom one at the top and a couple of plugs and cable itself.
