I have a MY97 (uk car). It has a TSL Backbox & a iTG panel filter. I have fitted my boost gauge and the reading seems highish as standard? (4th & 5th peaks at 15 psi then settles at 14 psi).

What I want know is, is that 1psi going to make a difference (Am I correct in thinking that the 97 fuel cut is 16 psi?). Mine peaks at 15 psi anyway.

Could my gauge be reading high?

Would I be better going for a full de cat system performance wise?

Any advice would be excellent :D

Worth giving the dawes a go, its not very expensive and if you've already got a boost gauge you can set it up easy enough.

I've actually taken mine off now, I found it to be very hit and miss to what boost I'd get, even flooring along one stretch of road max boost hit was often higher or lower on another stretch.

I'm keeping the dawes off ready for a Tek2 hopefully later this year :), that way I get the extra oompf but keep the saftey factor of having my ECU govern the boost.

Oh, yeah a de-cat is a good thang aswell :D

even at the same boost pressure, you should be able to feel a fair difference between the standard boost control and the dawes device.

basically, the dawes will allow boost to build much more quickly and thus noticeably improve acceleration.

however, some find it to be a bit 'twitchy' as it builds boost so quick. i remove mine when on a long motorway run as it is not as smooth, but the 'instant' boost is great if you want to go out and play.

it's never going to be a replacement for a link (or others) but, there again, it costs approx £70, not £1500!

Go and get a Dawes fitted!!!! You will be very happy after for a few months at least ;) They are great ;)

A full de-cat is always a great idea regardless of what
ever you want to add :) I've just fitted a 3" HKS down pipe
and a full NUR SPEC R Blitz... sounds the b0ll0x and goes like
no ones business.

With the Downpipe the turbo spools up much sooner taking away
some of the lag..... Always worth considering my dear :)

Get a Dawes, you won't regret it. I can't really say what boost pressure I've got at the momment because John Banks would end up with a heart attack. Especially since he knows mine's an import. :eek: :D

Of course Cosie Convert got to 29 PSI on his DIY Dawes on a 1995 WRX RA :D but with a lot of other work and not inconsequential risk ;)

You don't want to know. Trust me. After my mishap in Santa Pod where even Peccy thought I had a Sport because my gearstick got stuck, I needed to make my car accelerate much faster than it could just in case the same thing happened. Keep in mind, I haven't uprated anything else apart from intercooler spray.

17 +/- 1 psi for errors in MY93WRX, used to be around 10 psi. :D

I'm getting myself a 95 WRX ECU on Saturday so it should add another 20 BHp for me. :D :D :P
