Was getting a curry tonight from my usual and the guy says, I see you still got your car and I said yes 6 years now and got me thinking, the longest I have ever owned a car .....well not true had a classic BMW 2002 from 1994 till 2007 but not a daily driver.

I got mine new September 2007 and done 66.000 miles in it, truth be known was going to change it this year but nothing appealed to me. So re-taxed it etc and will run it a other year.

So who else has had one from new and still got it ?

.......bought my Bug WRX new from Well Lane 2002 and still have it on the drive :)

Changed it a bit though.

Bit worried though about the mileage creeping up to 63k but still love it and will spend three times more money on it then it's worth but hey it's only money :D

I bought mine September 2007 it was allegedly one of the last 50 WRX's made cost me all of £14,585 from Motorpoint. Bit of a bargain compared to yours, a mate in the work bought a Suzuki Swift sport at the same time was only a grand or so in it. :D

In them days there was no discount
Think I got a key ring
Delivery was 6 months as they were in such demand and low import rates made them a rare site on the roads
In them days you could buy one and run it a year and sell it for as much as you paid for them
They had just won the what car performance car of the decade award and every magazine loved them billing them as a super car slayer and the fastest A-B car via the twisties under £50k
Everyone in 1998/9/00 just wanted to own one

How things have changed :D
Base BMW /mercs were slightly cheaper but People were drawn to them by the massive rear spoilers & gold wheels and noisy exhausts
A real icon was born then

That was a bargain price for you
The boy also has a Suzuki swift sport ( great car ) and he paid a massive 30k australian dollars for his in Australia for it where he works Subaru STi are about $65k

Oh yes I remember when they were selling the last of the unloved bugeyes off at £17k when the blobeyes came out

Motor point were selling the wrx STi euro versions off at £23k which was basically a 330s which was then 33k which was a bargain and I went for a wrxd diesel which was one of the very first in the uk and was £23800 on the road with gold Gt1s

Motor point also sold off some of the early petrol 2009 wrx hatches which weren't really popular at £13k which was a bargain as the hatches weren't Recieved too well by the purists .

Well I bought my Cosworth new last year.

Don't think that really counts, I'll come back to this thread in fifteen years or so :D

Jan 2002 took delivery of my Bugeye STi. It still sits in my garage and has weekly outings. Taken it from 265 bhp to 440 bhp on the original engine currently at 108K miles.

Lots of threads when the cosworth was announced mostly on the high Price that majority condemned but the p1 was a whopping £33k in 2000 and rb320 was £35k so in my view the cosworth was correctly priced

not from new , but I had my P1 since 2002 ...only done 41,500 miles and only 1,500 miles on my forged EJ 22 2.35

Remember those days well. Bought my first one new (a wagon) in 1996 for £18600 or thereabouts. Sold it in 1999 with 21K on the clock for £18K and picked up my new silver saloon that I had waited 10 months for £19950. Was offered £21K for it 12 mionths later by a dealer because they couldn't get any :eek:

At the time it was 'king of the road' and every man and his dog wanted one.... bang for your buck was way better than most other offerings and it looked the part!

Agreed with your comments about the price but I "paid" nowhere near £50k for mine. Thanks for echoing the vote that favours my buying decision, the car appears to be very divisive to be honest. Get a lot of "could have bought a Skyline for that" or "think of the car you could have built".

She is garaged most of the time and after running the engine in properly is wheeled out for special occasions. Lots of official STi parts and bits being fitted, if replacing originals then being put in a huge box in the garage.

Hope a good chunk of value holds in the car, regardless of what happens I genuinely do want to return to this thread in 15 years as a one owner car.

Still makes no difference in my opinion what model it is though some will obviously be much more desirable, 22Bs are doing very well at the moment though still not worth anywhere near the price tag they commanded new back in 1999. All the Impreza turbo variants are enthusiasts' cars and low mileage mint models will eventually command a premium that will define them as classics. I'd hold onto that red wagon the value will have hit rock bottom and can only go up from here onwards. In my opinion.

Had my 03 STI from new so that's comfortably over 10 years. Not a record, I know, but it's unknown for me to keep a car that long!
I remember picking up my previous Impreza, new in '99 after a 6 month wait and just before I drove away, the salesman popped his head in and quietly said that if I was interested, he knew a guy who would pay 2 grand over the odds for it!

Had mine since new, ordered it February 1998, took delivery September 1998. I had to wait that long as dealers were only allowed one per month in 1998. Had it fifteen years now.

It's now done around 93,000 miles, but hasn't that much of the original in it :D having new short engine, gearbox, spoiler, front bumper and grille, brakes all round, wheels, splitter, seats and doorcards.

It was off the road for around 8 months in 2009-2010 while it had the engine out and replaced plus the new gearbox and running gear. (Harvey Smith did it as a non-distressed repair, hence the time, but it wasn't as expensive as if I'd wanted it back the next week.)

Am I glad I have it?
Sometimes. Sometimes I wish I had a nice nippy 50+ mpg diesel, something like an Ibiza Cupra TDi. Usually when I'm filling the Scoob twice in a day when going somewhere.....:(

We paid £22,250, the wife balked at metallic paint (£250) and aircon, (£1200). I don't blame her.

The dealer I bought it from went under in my second year of ownership.

Four and a half years later I got a huge trade-in deal in exchange for my Prodrive STI ( 2002 Type UK ), as no-one wanted to risk buying one.

Delivered on the first of February 2002 in a covered transporter ( with a new M3 ! ), she sat in the showroom with a do not touch sign, trapped by a VIP rope !

Still have the car, but needed to cash in some goodies last year, so she's work in progress this year. At under 70,000 recorded miles she's had a hard life on track and road.

Miss it like crazy, but the diesel Golf saves me a fortune getting to work and back.

60k miles.

Had mine for just over 10 years now, although it was already 10 years old when I got it :lol1:

I don't know how you guys do it honestly. I struggle keeping a car for more than 6 months! Though maybe if I bought new & knowing the high depreciation I would possibly keep it for a long time. Plus it's not like the good old days when the cars were in high demand & you got more money than what you paid for when driving off the forecourt.

It's actually a great feeling driving a car from 13/15 years old all polished up and nice to look at the Old classic shape and interior

In my case, it's probably because my cars a bit like Trigger's broom - engine is upgraded, so is suspension, brakes, transmission, etc, etc. It's also a weekend toy mainly so it never gets associated with daily drudgery in my mind.

I enjoy the tinkering with the spec and that keeps the car new to me, plus I change my other day to day cars fairly regularly.
