98' V5 wrx sti type-r

Hi all, just purchased my second impreza (first was an 01 plate bug eye).

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...8D24649D15.jpg

Its a gunmetal grey v5 type r. Pretty much standard at the mo apart from a full janspeed exhaust and OZ alloy wheels.

Have picked up a set of 18" ultralites that are going to he refurbed in bronze before I fit them. Not quite sure which way I want to go with this one so am on here looking for inspiration.

Comments always welcome.

Looks lovely mate. There's a few typeR's in here already mate running outrageous power, maybe look up JGM's or banny's.

So far ive picked up a 3 gauge dash top mount, 2 bar boost gauge and the new 18's. Looking at suspension setups next. I had tein -30 on my last impreza and the same on my starlet so they are the only logical choice in my mind unless anyone thinks or say otherwise.

Car was rolling roaded and read for fault codes today . . Made 300.3bhp so pretty happy with that as a start! Also had a little 80 mile run down to bude and back with a few mates (all b roads) which was good fun

So decided to see martyn @ engine tuner today in plymouth . . I went in for a CHAT and walked out a few hours later with a new live mapped alcatek ecu with a few options turned on. Car made 301.9bhp but has a more progressive curve now with higher torque figures.

I decided to go down this route as I didnt want to have to retrace my steps at a later date so I thought do it once and do it right and I will never have to revisit the ecu again other than for mapping :)

very nice, and good figures for stock car.. i love the colour and 3 dr

Lovely car, just keep an eye out on those rear arches for rust, second you see those bubbles you need it respraying, leave it any longer and you will need to replace the metal :(
Also around the front windscreen can go, mine has been in the UK since new (she is an early v5 in cool grey) and its taken a bit of effort to keep her in good condition :(

RoyPinhey 11 September 2013 07:20 PM

I thought I would add a few pics. Added a new tegiwa dura gearknob which I also had on my old newage and loved. Its tiny compared to the nardi I took off!

The graph I got after having my alkatec fitted. . .

Was going to mount a triple pod on the dash so bought and mocked up this along with my first white depo gauge . . . But after a trip in to see martyn today I have ordered myself a toucan :)

RoyPinhey 08 October 2013 12:57 PM

Toucan is in and fitted with all the extra sensors added too. I can now monitor fuel pressure, oil pressure, oil temp and much much more . . also now have launch control and antilag which Is always fun. Cant rate the toican highly enough just need to figure out how to use it properly now.

Since the last update ive also added some tein -30 springs too. Will update with more pics later. Im more and more tempted by a 2.1 self build some im going to start sourcing the parts over the next week.

Pic toucan (pod removed from dash amd now for sale)

not much love for the type r it seems . . . anyway thought I would post a few more pics of the toucan and its features. Ive set my new home screen to show the following as I feel that they are the most useful in day to day road mode

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps13d1f6e0.jpg

as you can see I have all the major temps and pressures on there . . . also took a few pics of some of the cool features such as the launch control that you can edit from within the car

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...psdeff0685.jpg

the various alarms you can set

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps85ac6336.jpg

and the different map selection

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...psf8b2e9fb.jpg

There is absolutely loads of toys and gadgets on the unit which I am discovering daily! (also just noticed how dusty the inside of my car is!!!!!)

Anyway just purchased an in wing filter from another member so hope to receive that within the next few days

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...s88e80367.jpeg

will wait for decat and a few other bits before fitting and mapping . . should see me well over 350bhp.

In the meantime ive got my new plates and am just waiting on the paperwork back to get them on

comments always welcome

going to try and custom fab some sort of mounting pod within the top heater vents to get my toucan flush and OEM looking. Also looking at flocking a lot of the interior and going for an aftermarket dished wheel

Plenty of love for the R from me, i've forgotton how it feels to drive one. Any more updates?

RoyPinhey 20 October 2013 01:32 PM

Not much atm, am looking for a spoilerless lid locally and am going to put a standard recirc valve from my old bugeye on to get rid of my forge atmospheric

RoyPinhey 23 October 2013 08:52 PM

Well went to fit the blobeye recirc valve I had in the shed today and realised the flange is completely different as is the location of the pipework :( unfortunately meams my free fix to getting my dv off is now going to cost a few quid on ebay . .

In other news I always noticed a hot smell when havong spirited drives . . finally managed to trace the phantom smell to a tiny split in my water feed to the turbo so im feeling like a lucky boy really to have gotten away with it for a few weeks especially having done a few hundred miles in that time.

All the factory aor box and pipework is out ready for the aps item to go in tomorrow morning but for now I think I need to order up a new hose set :D

D'OH! Its a right pain when it goes like that.

Loving the car, looks really nice. Especially when you go spoilerless!

If you ever need any plating (Chrome, yellow zinc, blue zinc, or black zinc) done, or sand blasting, arch rolling etc, give me a shout, Ive got a massive workshop and lal the kit to do it :) Just need a 2 post ramp and I am sorted.

Really tempted by a toucan screen for mine now ive seen yours

RoyPinhey 24 October 2013 05:17 PM

I will let you have a little play with mine if you like . . will make your mind up for sure! Could be up for some plating . . few bits like rad stays etc

Also set up a deal to pick up a spoilerless lid tonight ;)

JGlanzaV 24 October 2013 05:20 PM

Ideal ! :)

That would be awesome, will have to bring it over to the workshop one morning when mine has the new brakes fitted and compare notes! :)

RoyPinhey 24 October 2013 05:28 PM

Where is the workshop?

RoyPinhey 25 October 2013 07:58 PM

Ordered a few bits today like a new billet oil cap and some hoses (im paranoid after my lucky escape), also got my eye on some 666 injectors and a few other bits and pieces.

Just after xmas im looking at going for a billet sc38 or potentially the smaller sc36 but I should be looking at going 6 speed at the same time.

Watch this space

RoyPinhey 28 October 2013 01:40 PM

wrote a massive explanation to what has occurred this weekend and my computer logged me out so im not going through that again! anyway I've fitted my APS inner wing filter myself. As im maffless I was pretty confident the car would handle the change well and it wouldn't effect the running. A check on afr and lamba setting via my toucan confirmed this :)

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps0d9f43f4.jpg

Got so much room to work with now on that side . . anyway im looking to replace the length of induction piping where my maf once was as its pretty ugly looking gaffer taped up! anyway the car feels more responsive now but its probably just down to the change in noise

RoyPinhey 28 October 2013 01:43 PM

As you can see I've left the front feed in as it has a sensor attached and I'm not quite sure what it is. Anyway also took the first few steps to flush fitting my toucan into the heater vents . . wont give too much more away other than watch this space. (please bear in mind its a work in progress so is VERY rough atm and there is a lot more cutting and fitting and the production of a backing plate to occur yet!)

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps4b71b847.jpg

good thing is about it all is that I can now use my cupholder again!!!!!

RoyPinhey 28 October 2013 01:44 PM

also managed to shoehorn the 18's into my C2 and send them off for paint . . . busy month ahead
