Really looking forward to seeing this film, let us know what it's like

mrmadcap 02 September 2013 10:33 PM

Is this the rock band Rush?

P1Fanatic 02 September 2013 10:46 PM

They were screening it at the local showcase tonight but never made it. Not quite as swanky as your premiere tho :)

Fat Boy 03 September 2013 02:27 AM

Just back from the World Premiere...

It's good. More to follow - when I'm awake again

Looking forward to your review. From all the clips I have seen the film looks good apart from the racing scenes which seem over the top Hollywood style and over-CGI'd!

No, it's the story of the 1976 F1 season rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda which incidentally was the season that first got me watching F1

Fat Boy 03 September 2013 11:37 AM

More of a review in the post below this one- including Jenson's view of the racing scenes that he shared with me at the bar in the after party!

This first one is other stuff I pasted elsewhere late last night

~~~
Jenson and Sergio Perez arrived driving a current Macca F1 and a replica of James's mclaren wearing suits, ties and their race helmets - bizarre hearing F1 engines in Leicester Square... Loads of mp12's and a P1- no , not a Subaru
James's actual McLaren was there on a plinth and Niki's Ferrari was centre stage at the afterscreen bash
Brief roll call of who was there ( 4 rows ahead of us) : Bernie, Niki Lauda, Ross Brawn, Stefano Domenicali, Christian Horner, the entire jackie Stewart family, Gerard Berger, Jenson, Sergio Perez,Martin Brundle, loads of other famous F1 and race faces. The Hoff, of course... :roll eyes: Ludicrous numbers of the beautiful people e.g. Naomi Campbell etc etc.
Great party afterwards - Jenson; a proper bloke propping up the bar almost to the bitter end ( I actually had to nudge him out of the way at one point so i could get to the bar).
But the film I hear you ask.....
Very good. Go and see it - you won't be disappointed.
Worked for me as a petrol head and as a story in its own right (pleasurable amount of nudity too...) The guy playing Niki is him in the flesh - its amazing - and he dominates the film- james has a lot of the good lines, but its the niki character that you get drawn to for his drive (ahem) and his awkward squad self belief. I'm sadly old enough to remember all this from when it happened and it captured the initial emnity between them that eventually evolved into mutual respect and even admiration by the end.
Enough glamour, story and male totty for the girls and the blokes will love it.
See it on the big screen if you can with the noise up at 11...
Remember "Sex is the breakfast of Champions" - just try not to eat alone too much ;)
A few (terrible) iphone photos. We weren't allowed to use flash in the cinema and I didn't want to look too star struck outside on the balcony overlooking the square.
The Stewart family - Jackie facing me, with his son Paul in front of him and Mark to the right plus wives. Lady Helen was there too and he was just introducing him/them to everyone "Hello there, I'm Jackie and this is my wife, Helen..."!!!
http://i732.photobucket.com/albums/w...psb918a91a.jpg
When I turned around on the balcony - there was my adoring public gazing up at me. I think it was me anyway...
http://i732.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps4e60182d.jpg
and finally some old bloke in a red baseball cap - who ever he is :blink:
http://i732.photobucket.com/albums/w...psfad09b66.jpg
I actually spoke to him on the stairs on the way out and asked him what he thought as it must have been strange to watch his own story like that " well, I've seen 3 or 4 times now you know and even though its me up there, there's still a lot to take in- like the hospital bit. I don't remember too much of that...". There are some scenes in the hospital after his ring crash that you need a strong stomach for.
When I took that photo I had to ask this little bloke in front of me to move to one side. It was only afterwards that my mate Dan said " You know you just told Martin Brundle to get out of the way so you could take a photo of someone important...":blushing: It was very dark in there, alright.
Quick chat with Jenson at the bar in the after party- still there at nearly midnight; channelling James :D What a great bloke and a sponsor's dream. He thought the film was good and the racing bits were well done - so high praise indeed.
Anyway, I'm off now to bore anyone else who'll listen to me .
Cheers
Awesome, I'll go see the film when it comes out for sure
But how did you get such access, surely claiming to be Scoobynet's official representative doesn't get rewards like that!
Fat Boy 03 September 2013 12:25 PM
I just told them that I drive a 13 year old subaru and I was straight in...;) :)
Wasn't there a similar programme on BBC2 a few weeks ago?
Indeed there was and it was shown because of the interest in this movie.
Hunt vs Lauda
Not on iPlayer sadly as it's worth a watch.
Also this is a good documentary if you like the 70s motorsport scene:
I cant wait to go see this. I paid a visit to a local racing company in Yorkshire and had a look around this not so long back, look familiar?
Not sure if its been driven yet but its to go round Donnington Park driven by Rob Austin :thumb:
Leslie 05 September 2013 03:29 PM
What have you achieved to get such a personal invitation FB. You have done very well out of it anyway.
Les
Fat Boy 05 September 2013 09:39 PM
Hi Les,
My brother and I helped the guys behind the film in their early days to get set up and grow before they were sold to their giant French parent in 2007.
One of the original partners is still there now as the CEO so given that he knows I'm a sad petrol head he was kind enough to send me an invite.
They have loads of these premieres but this was the only one with F1 at the heart of it so I was grateful to get the invites.
Cheers
J
I broke my ankle at school and built that car while my leg was in plaster.
CrisPDuk 04 October 2013 01:32 PM
Went to see this last night, absolutely stunning :thumb:
There is a bit of filmmakers licence applied with the timeline but it is minor and has no effect on the overall story.
The paddock and race scenes are superbly shot, and the film really brings home the absolute disregard the circuit owners and race organisers of the period had for the well being of the drivers :eek:
