Do all bugeye/newage have alloy bonnets?
Or is my uk300 special lol?
Noticed a little while ago its got an alloy bonnet and wondered if its std? |
Mine does. WRX bug wagon here
|
Cool cheers bud, just wondering thats all lol
|
Mine does to, never push it down with your fingers!!
|
No, i always give bonnets a good drop lol
|
Yeah me too now after £60 for dent removal
|
Lol
|
mines also rippled where some eejit has pressed their trotters down on it.
|
Mine is just stone chipped to ****ery!
|
Bug WRX will have steel bonnet from factory, it is thinner gauge steel than the old classic steel bonnets but steel none the less.
You sure you have an alloy bonnet ?? |
Mine is a 02 wrx, it definatly is alloy
|
All bugs (uk / jap / wagon / wrx / STi) have alloy bonnets.
I dented my bug WRX alloy bonnet on day 1 of ownership :( dent man said the desigh is such that it's difficult to get out at the front where it curves over so I left it. eventually bought a carbon one :D Shaun |
Its non magnetic, deffo not carbon so that leads me to believe its alloy lol
|
Maybe im wrong then, but I fitted some aero catches to a bug wrx for a snet member and am sure it was steel, was certainly tougher than the blob STI I did the week before.
|
My blob sti has alloy emmas bug is steel.
|
Despite the shocking reception of the bugeye (and boy was Subaru quick to change it) they actually got a few things right......STi intercooler, 6 speed box etc. another plus was that all the models were slated to have an alloy bonnet.
Shaun |
All genuine newage turbo bonnets are aluminium. If it has a steel one fitted, it will be a copy/replacement panel. "FACT"

Shaun On a plus note, the classic steel bonnet I did was made of the same gauge steel used to make ships. Bugger that was tough :lol1: |

All i can say is the bug wrx bonnet was noticeably heavier and much harder to cut than the blob sti bonnet. If it is alloy then its of much thicker gauge than the sti. Infact, my own classic sti alloy bonnet was lighter and easier to cut than the bug wrx.

That's strange as AFAIK all Subaru made was one alloy bonnet for the entire Bug range, even the 1.5 N/A wagon thing had an alloy bonnet. Shaun |
i have both a wrx and sti sitting on the drive at the minute so i have done a check with a magnet and much to my surprise the magnet sticks to neither bonnet but does to every other panel.
the wrx bonnet did feel a lot heavier when i fitted bonnet lifters though. http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps08964f33.jpg so id say both are alloy. |
My WRX bonnet had a shed load of soundproofing fitted which weighed quite a bit........didn't make much difference to the sound when I got rid of it LOL
Shaun |
There we have it then, learn something new everyday hey.
The wrx was certainly heavier though and harder to cut. |
My bug UK300 has got the dent where some tool has used there hand, getting sorted next month
|
The newage WRX and WRX STIs all have aluminum bonnet. The NA ones only received an aluminum bonnet for the hawkeye models.
|
Well, there we go lol.
|
I have 54 plate wagon. That has an alloy bonnet. It’s way too light to be anything else. |
Same as on my 2007 Hawk, definitely ally. I have a magnetic torch that won't stick to it. I lifted up a classic bonnet once, couldn't believe the weight difference.
|
Thread is 5 years old lol
But yes all WRX and STI newage models, blubeye, blobeye and hawkeye all have aluminium bonnets
