Grinding when going round corners?
Hi all,
Anyone have any idea on what a grinding, almost like metal on metal, when going around a corner or roundabout could be? Only happens when it's right hand down. Taken at normal speed. When left hand down or driving straight there's no noise! Thanks, Sam |
sometimes get a grinding when 1 of your inside brake pads are low,or a possible wheel bearing, jack both front wheels up and check for any play,cv joints normally make a heavy clicking noise
|
It's just had its mot and passed with flying colours!
Will check it all out as I'm not even sure if the noise is coming from the front or rear! |
Mudflaps? I had a similar noise once, it was a badly adjusted mudflap bracket and the noise sounded very metallic and could only be heard once loaded into a bend.
|
My brother took one off yesterday and put it back on, rear drivers side, but the noise sounds like passenger side?
Then again when you corner right the weight is on the drivers side! How would I know if its the mud flap? |
take both off and go for a drive (mudflaps that is)
|
It's often the metal brackets. Give them a good push, ensuring they are flush. To be certain if the noise persists take them off. Hopefully this is a quick fix.
|
Would the rear flap really make a metal to metal grinding noise?!?!
|
Is it a newage car ? Also do u have a decat ?
|
Yes. I picked my car up from Enginetuner and a bracket must have been jogged. Took out out for a test drive and I thought my drivetrain was fecked, it was a horrible metallic sounding noise. ET diagnosed out and it was a quick fix. Out had Alan scratching his head though as he was onboard for the test drive. May not be this though.
|
Yes new age, with decat.
Will there be marks on the bracket or anything? |
Check the de cat against the bulkhead. It rubs on the bulkhead and almost sounds like a brake pad noise. I've had this before and was stumped for a while,
|
Nothing looks out of place!!! Definitely when right hand down. Grinding is from rear passenger when under load!
Any ideas!!!?? |
I had exactly the same, turned out the disc was touching the backing plate.
Not sure what caused it, possibly wheel bearing. I just dented the backing plate where it was touching the disc as a temporary cure. |
If that is the problem will driving the car sensibly cause a problem?
|
I just did a track day in it without a problem.
|
I just don't get what it is!
No banging or knocking No whining when the car is driving Nothing on load when turning left Nothing when stopped and turning right All is tight and in order Pads and discs ok Tyre and wheel ok I still don't get the mud flap thing though but it was drivers rear he took took, not passenger where the noise is! So maybe a stone trapped? Will get the disc off tomorrow to see that option! Off to work I go gently then!!!! |
100% the same symptoms mine had.
Only way I found what was causing the noise was taking the disc off and seeing the wear on the backing plate. |
Thanks Moley, that's tomorrow's job. Leaving it with my brother and taking the hawk out instead! Didn't think I'd be driving it this soon tbh!
Thanks again, will let you know tomorrow the outcome! Sam |
Hey people,
Simply a stone in between disc and backing plate! Sam |
