Bridgestone RE070's
 

Well, I've had about a year on the Toyo T1R's and can't wait to get them off on Friday.

Never have I chosen such a poor tyre for any of my cars as I did these.

Chocolate compound, chocolate walls. The end.

I have a completely standard 07 plate STi Spec D, and am looking forward to getting the RE070's on.
Camskill of course.

Some of you may dislike the Bridgestone RE070's, and fair enough, but I want the STi Impreza experience back in my life. Tramlining, feedback, confidence, sit up and pay attention at the wheel, grip.....bring it on.

Classics the T1R's are fine (apparently) heavier newage - forget it.

Never before has a decent drivers car been transformed (overnight) into a body rolling, lack of steering response, and general "don't push me - or I will find you, and I will kill you" car as after fitting T1R's.

I had T1 Sports on my Blob and loved them.

RE070s great tyre for making progress but a bit pants on rough roads...

You'd be surprised with the federal rsr, good all round tyre inc track and wet. But re070 a good shout too.

Ordered AD08's for my S202 :)

T1R's weren't brilliant on the newage I have to say, great on my classic though :)

Those Yoko's are next up on my list to try :thumb:

I've got them on my classic ra, the level of grip is astounding! Seriously you'll find grip
In places you never have. Nice hard walls. However too tight for my classic arches, I will be selling mine

Yes they are total crap on a newage unless you are doing all motorway miles and doing 32mpg ;)

I had the T1R's on my last classic and coulden't get them off fast enough, absolute pants TBH..

Ive got a set of Bridgestone RE070's 235's with between 3-5mm tread on you can have for £80.

The Focus ST runs identical tyre sizes to the STI and having experienced the Goodyear Eagle on the Focus I was hugely impressed - wonder how many STI's are on Goodyears.

Can say the same thing for the Pirelli P-Zero Nero's that came with my WRX. OK, they're a quality tyre in that they're reasonably well made but they do like to get a little vocal thanks to those squirmy sidewalls. That and they suck in the wet. I think tyres like those, and the T1R's are ok on lighter cars where the sidewall softness is an asset but on anything high powered, and/or heavy, you're screwed.

I thought T1R's were fine for road use on my old Spec C, which was running some decent grunt at the time. Good in the wet. OK they were not a "high performance" tyre, but for road use..... absolutely fine imo.

I ripped my RE070's off my current Scoob a few months ago - now have Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 on. Never looked back.

agree with previous comments RE070 extremely good in the summer (though did not feel totally confident with them in the wet). switched to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 over 6 months ago and must admit find them excellent in all weathers.

Where are you guys getting hold of RE070s by the way?

It's near impossible to get hold of them in 17" let alone 18" sizes...

I've had a quick ferret about looking at prices and discovered that Tesco ('in association with...') are flogging them. Is nothing sacred ????

(Mind you, their Momentum's good enough so perhaps there's hope).

I have Goodyear f1 symmetrics fitted at the moment(was on there when I bought the car) its also nearly time for me to replace but I can't find them anywhere,been told they have stopped being produced?? They are a great tyre and want them again.

Camskill have them in 225/45/17 for £86 a corner, not sure about 18" though

I've tried many different tyres over the past 15 years old Impreza ownership.
Toyo's were total shyte, closely followed by avon zz3's.

I have found vredestein ultrac sessanta are the best of the whole lot.

You should try the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I too loved the 070's but wont be putting anything else on the Scoob now

I had toyos on my classic v4 sti and hated them. Moved to khumos and they were 10 times better.

Now on acceleras (they came with 18s) and they're even better than the toyos.

The best tyre I ever had was 10 years ago when I bought my very first classic. They were the reo50 potenzas. For a very short time before I put on the zz3 Avon and actually spun the car at slow speeds.

I find it a nightmare choosing tyres. On here there are so many people that love the toyos.

I ran 17" re040 on my blob WRX; they were pretty good but expensive for you what you got.

Running Avon zz3 on my 06 Sti with 18" and they're excellent.! Plus £40 per corner cheaper than the smaller re040s!

For all the opinions we're really none the wiser as to what's "best" for our cars.

I haven't got any experience of the T1-R's but my Toyo Proxes T1 Sports were awesome on the Blob STi. Far more bite than the Avons that are popular with many for this model. Amazing in the wet too...

I didn't really think RE070s were in keeping with the character of my Spec D as they were too firm, but they make great tyres for a Spec C. Might make some enquiries about the availability of 18" tyres.

Got Michelins on my Cosworth at the moment, very popular choice of tyre among car owners and they do well in the tests but I cannot say I'm the world's biggest fan.

It is a shame that we don't have a resource that can put all the popular tyre choices through a test on say, a Newage Blob so that we can come up with an idea of what's "best" or more accurately, what is best for each of our specific needs.

I use them in the winter and AD08 summer/tracking.
I preferred the Assym 1s to the Assym 2s. The 1s have a sturdier outside shoulder tread pattern. The 2s are more similar to Michelin PS3s, so for me, not a great summer tyre.
Pretty good in the wet though.

I've got T1-R's on my Blob STI and they're lovely, except in the wet when they're hopeless. I've had oversteer off boost at 20 mph in them, serious a grip free tyre on a slippery day.

It's the 235s that are near impossible to get in uk, rest of the popular sizes not so bad

I can't find R18 245 40 profile anywhere ...

Couldn't agree more with the T1R's. Have a set in the shed with less than 5k miles on. Bought a new set of tyres as they were so dreadful on the hatch. When you turn the wheel past a certain point you can actually feel the tyre wall flex plus the ride was harder for some reason i cannot understand.
Also trying out the Vredstein Ultrac Sessantas, unquestionably better that the Toyo's, yet to try them in the wet.
