Mega lag?! :/

Evening all!

Just wanted some help really....

I have a 2005 wrx running power related mods below:

- 2.0 engine
- sc36 bille turbo
- 550cc injectors
- scoobyclinic decat up pipe
- 3 inch cobra exhaust straight through
- 3 port boost solenoid
- japspeed front mount intercooler
- Sti inlet manifold with tumbler delete
- walbro fuel pump
- pipercross induction kit with cold air feed
- SFS induction hose

I had it mapped by Pat Herbourne on the rollers last week and got 355bhp on a rather warm day. I'm really pleased with the result power wise but the car has become rather laggy. Full boost isn't achieved until 4500 rpm now and its forcing me to rev the car more than I'd like to.

Anyone got any ideas why, what I can do to help, etc?

Before I changed the manifold and the sti top mount to front mount it hit boost about 3750.....help please :)

I'd suggest you go back to Pat & get it checked out.

Wouldn't of thought you needed a front mount for that power, an Sti top mount would of been sufficient, could be that . Also did you get the turbo ported? That is also worth doing. Your problem could be the size of the turbo, the bigger the turbo the more lag you will get, there's no getting away from that. A mapper can only do so much to make the boost come in earlier to reduce lag. But I agree go back to Pat and get his opinion. Good luck!

Did you get a map tweak after switching to front mount?

Hi there

What up pipe and headers you are running?
SC36 should be have nice spool on WRX engine, but depends on more factors why spooling so late, but as above guys suggest speak to Pat and SC,I'm sure they will help you with yours questions and will suggest you what will be best to do so

Thanks for the replies guys!

The car is running one of scoobyclinics own decat up pipes and standard headers.

The sc36 comes ported I believe as part of the TD05 rework.

I went front mount as I've had my engine go pop once and I want to do few track days so went reliability first......it's not for the power a such, just reliability to go with what I have.

I was at the misses last night and the graphs are at my parents so I'll have a look tonight and give pat a call when I have them to hand.

Thanks guys!

Oh and yes it has had a map tweak for the front mount, that's why pat was mapping it last week. Thanks

I saw another graph on here the other day with the same kind of spool characteristics? Are these just laggy turbos? My non billet s206 pretty much spools up by then and its probably twice the size lol

adz556 14 August 2013 01:12 PM

They should be and are known for being fast spooling which is why I'm confused!

3 Attachment(s)
The photos are of my last map and my new one......only differences are Sti inlet manifold and front mount on the new one and ambient temp change.....help?

adz556 14 August 2013 08:56 PM

The 275 and 279 graphs are the at the wheels graphs.....any suggestions? Is that what to expect on my set up or should I expect better spool? Thanks!

jura11 14 August 2013 10:09 PM

Hi there

On one graph where is 275.1hp there is full boost around 3500-3700RPM which in my view great spool up,on second one where is 279.4hp there is full boost at 4200RPM,seems is bit laggier and you are not gained as much although both figures are in WHP

Seems you are lost bit spool with the FMIC

Is 500-700rpm lag expected by going fmic and having it mapped in? Just seems a lot..... I don't really know if I'm honest.

....and the inevitable rich dip in the fueling from fitting the FMIC.

Anyway to work around that?

bluenose172 14 August 2013 10:58 PM

Blow through MAF placement or Mafless tune.

Boost leak?!

adz556 15 August 2013 12:34 PM

The car had an air leak from the manifold to the brake servo when on the rollers but it was picked up on Pat's road test so I'm sure he would have compensated if required (I don't know if it would make any difference).

The other thing the mechanics did (while it was atSC having the inlet manifold fitted) was block off some air lines now I think about it, where they run into a T piece near the inlet manifold. They had no need to but they said they weren't required...... Would this matter?

tom-r33 15 August 2013 01:13 PM

Blocked off air lines, fitted front mount which has multiple connections, removed and re fitted inlet manifold and associated pipework etc etc, loads of joints that air could be leaking from..... I'm not saying that's the issue, but a good place to start.
Also worth checking there are no blows from the exhaust manifold and the boost controller has not been messed with and actuator is spot on

speak to clinic mate, if theres an issue pat will look at it.
