2006 Blobeye WideTrack Type Uk - Project Thread

Well Guys and Gals...

Owned my car for a few months now and done some little bits to her, I thought I would do a mini project thread to show the progress of the car and what is to be coming up in the near future :p

Just thought I'd show a couple of some of my previous favourite's...

So moving on... :)

Details -

2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STi
2.0L Turbo Type UK
DCCD Widetrack Model

The car was fairly standard'ish when I bought her, with the exception of a ReMap (320bhp) from TrackHound Racing :freak3: ? BC Coilovers, 18" Gold Forged BBS Wheels & RaceBox BackBox Exhaust!

I have made a few changes to the car in the short period of ownership...

When I picked her up :luvlove:

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4115.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4119.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4124.jpg

First change was simple, decal colour change from Pink to Gold

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4279.jpg

Then, I De-Badged the rear boot lid to make the back end look cleaner and smoother. My taste anyways :p

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4281.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4287.jpg

I bought some Neo-Petrol Wheel Nuts, they compliment the Gold wheels I think

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4285.jpg

Joined in on the AutoBrite Group Deal on SnowFoam... had to be done -

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4567.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4565.jpg

I got another exhaust with the car, as part of the purchase and I was not too happy with the tone and noise being produced by the RaceBox so this had to go! I swapped over the exhaust and sold the RaceBox.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4290.jpg

Next came my headunit, I was searching for a little while trying to figure out what I wanted; design and spec. I ended up with a Pioneer AVH-4400BT

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4315.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4349.jpg

I managed to source some standard 17" STi wheels from eBay for a spare pair, my aim was to run these whilst in the process of selling my 18" Forged BBS ones, I wanted either Rota Grid Drifts or XXR 527's to finish the look I wanted.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4105.jpg

A friend of mine and I then decided to take a trip out, along with a few others. He has a Nissan 350z. There was also a Lotus too. So preparation now went into strengthening and improving parts on the car.

To start we changed the brake hoses to HEL Braided lines all around

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4513.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4515.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4532.jpg

Next came a stronger fuel pump, HRC290 :thumb:

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5144.jpg

Managed to source a decent centre gauge pod holder and purchased 3 ProSport Gauges - Oil Temp - Oil Pressure - Boost PSI
(this is also a better shot of the headunit)

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5194.jpg

I still was not happy with the exhaust, so I took the plunge and purchased a Blitz Nur Spec R, back box with centre pipe and a zero cell cat ;)

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4774.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4760.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...e8585ff58a.jpg

This was swiftly followed by a exhaust bung due to the noise level :lol1:
We tested this at work and it was peaking 3/4 revs at 112+ dB :wonder:

The Plod would not accept this being 112dB so the bung was a necessity!

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_4999.jpg

I decided to go down the route of uprgrading my braking system...
I have owned cars with 4-pots (Brembo's) before and tbh I was not really impressed with the Scoobies system.

I purchased Godspeed Discs and Performance Pads Grooved combo to start

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ead/photo4.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ead/photo5.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5125.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5119.jpg

This was then followed up with a Tegiwa Brake Stopper and Motul RBF400 Dot4 Fluid.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ead/images.jpg

This I felt made a huge difference to the braking system, it felt alot stronger and no fade!! :D

I had a standard Re-Circ DV on the car to which, if i'm honest just wasn't a scooby feel for me so this was replaced with a Forge Atmospheric.

I replaced the Panel Filter with a K&N and then took it for a ReMap with Bob Rawle :thumb:

This involved a lengthy drive down to Bob's location and the process began. He inspected the car for me and gave it his nod of approval.

After he worked his magic I was then given the result of................. :wonder:

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...rDynoGraph.png

360.8 bhp and 335.1 ft/lbs :D very happy to say the least, considering the mods that was involved, even Bob was surprised and happy! :thumb:

This was by now all starting to come together...

I got back on eBay and managed to source another set of standard 17" STi alloys, this time in Gold to use as my wet's!

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5154.jpg

The other set I had acquired (silver) now went in to get sand blasted, refurb'd, acid dipped & PowderCoated in Pillar Box Red :norty:

These were wrapped with 225/45/17 Yokohama A048 Semi-Slicks

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5250.jpg

Things were tailing off after this, until I finally got the call that the alloys I had been chasing for 2 months have finally turned up!

XXR 527's 18 x 8.75 In Gold with Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta 225/40/18 rubber :D

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5161.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5168.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5186.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5195.jpg

Before and After -

Some more pics -

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5212.jpg

Stanced -

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5230.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5458.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5233.jpg

Decided that I didn't like the chrome centre caps that came with the alloys, so this was swiftly re-sprayed and new gel caps were designed and ordered

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5460.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5461.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5466.jpg

AND....how she looks at present :D

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...d/IMG_5469.jpg

pretty impressed with it all in a whole though, managed to keep both the Lotus and the Nissan 320bhp 350z at bay :D

and that is it for now, there will be further modifications to be done to the car.. watch this space :)

Thank you for taking the time to read my little progress thread :notworthy

looking good,I do like the black and gold combination.

stonejedi 04 August 2013 06:50 PM

Very nice car I see you went for the Performance friction pads but maybe you should of upgraded to the two piece disc upfront as well,as that combination works very well.SJ.

JonMc 04 August 2013 08:48 PM

Looks good, some choice mods but I hope you have a back-up plan for track days running the Blitz:wonder:

Ryan-STi 04 August 2013 11:54 PM

Thanks guys!

Stonejedi - Was tempted but was trying to keep some costs down at that point. I might opt for them soon tho!

JonMc - The Blitz was fine. Had the bung in and it was recorded at 72dB :)

tubbytommy 04 August 2013 11:59 PM

looks good fella, nice mods

thenewgalaxy 05 August 2013 12:04 AM

Very nice indeed, how do you find the Scooby compares to your previous cars?

blackvenom 05 August 2013 12:29 AM

How did you find the bung on the track? I have a blitz system on mine and use my bung for early mornings but Its driven off boost or on light boost whilst fitted, not little likely to cause damage? Or am I over paranoid?

chrishigham 05 August 2013 01:50 AM

Car looks great , wheels really suit it too.

The Sheep Worrier 05 August 2013 07:57 AM

Looks lovely mate, after white, black is deffo the best colour on a blob, for me anyway :-)

Bung seems fine, was told by a few people that its okay to drive with a bung in. I used it and didn't have one issue with regards to the engine/exhaust!

Its gunna be a little restrictive, but just depends which you prefer: less Noise or more power lol

I think it is pretty good in comparison tbh, the one's I've shown above were pretty great cars, but in different ways!.

The Focus RS was an animal! No grip in 1st and 2nd, power was 3rd onwards. But handled insanely well and was just great fun to drive. Always turned heads.

The M3 was a lot more tame, lairy in 1st gear but other than that, was tame, even with traction off. But I had some good tyres on. VERY nice to drive and a very luxurious motor. 60k car! The SMG gearbox is very recommended... was great fun! The Rasp is addictive!

The Scooby, weird to drive at first, wasn't overly satisfied with the performance as standard, but now she's kicking out a bit I'm pretty impressed. 1st gear grip is ridiculous! I cannot get this car to wheel spin it just grips! That's the obvious most noticeable difference in the cars. Love the noise and the looks of the car.
Still think its strange to drive though, seems harder or more effort than it took with the other two.
The one thing I think this car fails in comparison is the brakes, not the best imo.
The Scooby is great fun in the corners tho, the diff is amazing and so much fun!

Thanks for the comments guys :thumb:

No there ET35 buddy, they did rub tho! Only slightly on hard corners or speed bumps. I had the arches rolled and pulled and its spot on now!

scoobyboy1 06 August 2013 09:32 AM

Looks very nice, and defo the best colour for a newage!!! Loving the gold XXR on a black car, giving me some ideas!!!

You have done a few mods in the short time you have owned it. Also Ive owned a mk1 Focus RS (build no 2930) I went from scooby to Focus RS to Evo and then back to scooby, and to be honest Ive found my perfect car, I dont think I want any other car in my price range at the moment!!

Never heard of GasTech, I tend to use Agdespeeds since he's only up the road in Irlam.

I live in Newton-Le-Willows probably not far from you, there can't be many black STIs round here, I'm surprised I haven't seen you. I've done very similar mods to you with regards to brakes and head unit too.

Looking good. Can I ask where you got the gel caps done? :)

K3ogh_sti 08 August 2013 02:32 PM

Looks amazing dude ! Did you find the 'blackmasking' and de-tango straightforward?

There from this guy mate: 7288gavin

I requested a specific design and sent it to him and he made them and now also offers them out to the rest of the community :thumb: enjoy

tbh... I found it extremely easy to do, I've done this before on some previous cars and in comparison the Scooby was a doddle!!! :)

There is a guide on here of how to remove the headlights, I just used that to locate the two small screws, once there out.. the rest is so simple.

To split them, its just 9 screws (v9 lights) and then heat them up and they pull apart like hot cheese :thumb:

turboturner 08 August 2013 05:04 PM

Looking nice mate, once the power starts going up you'll be wheel spinning again in 1st and 2nd ;)))))

Ryan-STi 08 August 2013 05:06 PM

Yeah, maybe.. what sort of power/boost starts to break the traction on these?

turboturner 08 August 2013 06:06 PM

Mines around 500hp and its a handful in the dry on re70s...

The Stitcher 08 August 2013 09:33 PM

Nice car mate always nice to one that is used and enjoyed to full potential, will be keeping an eye on this thread to see updates on car and track action keep up the good work :thumb:

zenith 09 August 2013 05:48 PM

How did you get on with re-sealing the headlights after a de-tango? Was there enough mastic already inside the light for you do to the reseal or did you sure it up with something else?

I put them back in the oven and warmed the mastic back up then quickly clipped them back together and put all the screws in to force the mastic tight together, cooled them down and they have been spot on so far!
