fault code - o2 sensor - bug eye
Hi all.
I have the engine management light on my 02 plate wrx. I have had it scanned and been told it is a o2 sensor fault so luckily nothing major. The garage told me if I fit an aftermarket sensor it may fix the problem but might still leave the light on the dash. Is this true? Anyhow. I would like to get the part myself and fit it if its not too hard to access and fairly straightforward. I have a pic of the codes I will attach. Will partco or similar parts company be able to order the part in for me with just this code? Can anyone give me any advise on this please. Thanks in advance. |
If it's the front sensor then you need to get the denso one but don't pay subaru prices - check this out...

Ok having problems uoloading the pic. The code is.... P0031 Ho2s Heater control circuit low (bank 1 sensor 1)
|
I had the same code - that's the sensor you need. Lift the part code and google it, you might even get it cheaper. The subaru price is about £350:eek:
|
Ouch. £350 is a bit of a joke. Did you fit an aftermarket one yourself and did it turn the engine management light off and was it straightforward? Thanks Jon

The OE ones are denso too, I used one from ebay that was denso and about £150 (4 years ago) and touch would has been fault free since - at least as far as that fault code goes:wonder:

Bugeye has two 02 sensors, front and rear. Rear deals with cat efficiency and usually throws P0420 if something wrong. Front generally gives a heater error.
Front sensor is a pseudo wideband sensor and the ECU doesn't like copies so best to get an OEM one. Either from a breaker or from eurocarparts etc. The front sensor is accessed by removing the front off side wheel and there are some good guides on here :) Shaun |
I've had one from these guys these in my 06 STI for about 4 years and it has been fine.
I couldn't lay my hands on a Denso one for this model, but would have gone for one if I could have. http://www.walkerproducts.com/products/ |
My local garage fitted mine (a denso one) job done £165.00 the lot.:)
|
As Shaun says, it's a psuedo wideband that no-one other than Denso (who make th OE sensor) make that works properly. For that reason you can't buy a universal 4-wire as it just won't work. As long as you get a Denso one that matches the Subaru part code you will be fine. The Subaru mark-up on this part is ridiculous given the Denso branded ones are proven to work as well for significantly less money.
Once the front wheel and inspection panel are off I found a good ring spanner (22 or 24mm - can't remember which) works well:thumb: |
This might help http://importcarparts.co.uk/parts_in...en=&searchKey=

Ah thanks a lot guys. Ever helpful on here as always!
Thats more like it Bob. £108! Fingers crossed thats the right one and gets rid of the engine management light. Will look up the fitting guide on here now. cheers again! |
If you were a bit closer I'd say swing on by and I'll do it for you for the cost of a Medium Latte, but the fuel would cost you more than the labour charge:wonder:
|
Very kind of you Jon but it seems i live miles from pretty much anywhere, the car ferry is the most expensive part though. Around £80 return to go across a 5 mile strip of water! ha!
Just before i buy the one you suggested Bob.....does anyone know if this is deinately the one i need as it doesnt mention that it is a pseudo wideband sensor. http://importcarparts.co.uk/parts_in...en=&searchKey= As long as it does the job and takes the light off the dash thats all good. Thanks again. |
The one Bob suggested is the right one - the Subaru part number is correct:thumb:
