Engine rebuild
 

I have a 2003 WRX PPP. Engine is EJ205. Got a misfire and the dreaded P0302 error. Having tried plugs and swapping coils round, I did a compression test. No compression cylinder 2. Looks like I'm taking the engine out!

I assume from reading other posts that the piston has gone. so your saying you have 0psi on cylinder two? have you changed anything on the car recently like inlet pipe etc?

It may be a burnt valve? If you have no compression you will have to pull the engine either way. If you have a damaged pistons chances are it will of damaged the bore as well, that kit shows std size pistons?

Steve - nothing changed, bought the car with a very slight misfire (right money) but have been unable to cure it. It just got worse.
wms-racing - I'm going to pull the engine to strip and inspect before buying anything. If it is a piston, they also do 92.5mm at same price if needed. Just specify when ordering.
Main question is: Is this another example of rip-off Britain for car spares (I am in no way blaming the parts sellers here, they buy the bits, put a reasonable mark-up on them) compared with the American market OR do you think USDM is different to UKDM (I know some gaskets are different to JDM but that is a minor issue) and I'm wasting my money?
p.s. Never touched a Scooby flat four before but over the last 40 years have rebuilt many engines of many marques and ages, including making my own "special service tools" and am really looking forward to it!

im suffering from the same problem! 80% compression loss in cyclinder 2, what did you find to be the problem? be handy to know before I start stripping down my block lol

I would stay clear... If it seems too good to be true then it probably is.
However the US is a good place to source quality forged engine parts.

what ever the reason full rebuild time.

My dad's car dropped compression on one cylinder, turned out it fried a valve, bottom end seemed fine but he had it done anyway. They found the bearings were damaged, so saved the price of a second rebuild had he risked it.
