Be prepared, I work for Barclays Enable, the banks IT subsidary, and have found out today they are terminating all contracts as of end of June. If they still need you skills, they will offer you a new contract at a 20% reduction in your current rate. It could be a move that the other banks will follow. Belt tightens....
|
Funny that. I work in a bank, and two months ago got renewed for 12 months, with a 12% rate rise in the contract to kick in in September. :D :p
BTW, it's not Barclays. ;) |
Work or just turn up? ;) :p
|
The latter ;) and no swearing its w**k :p
|
barclays - used to work for them - complete PANTS!
|
me too. ditto on the pants.

What do you think? :D
Clearly I w**k for my living. You don't think I just sit here and read Scoobynet all day do you? ;) |
Well hopefully I'm staying. The job itself is good and a twenty minute motorycle ride from home. I will take the pay cut to keep my job (I know loads of people out of contract at the moment). I'll wait for the market to pick up (probably 2004) and then push for an increase or move on.
I'm obviously not as specialist as you guys getting increases. Been contracting 11 years and this is the first time I've taken a cut. I'll be on less than I was earning seven years ago. Buggers. |
A job is better than no job at all. And you can always look for something else whilst you're there. :D
I wouldn't say I'm particularly specialised - C++/MFC, blah blah (see www.otway.com/cv for the full story ;)). Just lucky, I guess. There's work out there though, so keep looking. You'll soon be back up to your old rate. :D BTW, don't want to sound funny, but I took the liberty of having a squint at your CV - it's pretty heavy going! I think you need to 'rationalise' the text a bit, and cut it down to 3 pages max (preferably two). If it landed on my desk when I was interviewing, I'm not sure I'd actually see you in your best light - despite you obviously having decent skills and experience. Time for a "CV tips" thread to go with the interview hints thread from yesterday? ;) [Edited by MarkO - 5/22/2002 10:04:26 AM] |

MarkO, thanks for the CV advice. I know, it's something I've been meaning to do for ages.
