MY00 Classic Turbo Intake Pipe

Hi guys. This is probably a long shot, but was wondering if anyone knew if the standard turbo intake pipe on a MY00 classic impreza was completely smooth all the way round at the turbo end? Basically I'm trying to diagnose a really slow-spooling turbo and was looking at my intake pipe and it seems to have a 'bulge' sticking out of the bottom where it connects to the turbo. I can't tell if it's a split or anything and not sure if it's meant to be there or not. Unfortunately I cannot get my camera in there enough to focus on it to show you all what I mean. Could that even affect turbo spool if it did have a split in it? Or am I barking up the wrong tree? When I say slow spool, I've got a VF35 and it's not getting full boost til around 4,800rpm :(

Thanks in advance for your help :thumb:

Okay, so I just moved a few pipes around and managed to get my camera in there......

The red circled bit is the 'bulge' I mentioned sticking out of the bottom. It just looks like a random bit of plastic? No pipe seems to be connected to it or anything, don't really know what it is or if it's meant to be there or not. The main thing I'm worried about now I've seen this photo though, is the way the entire intake pipe is bulging up so much before the jubilee clip! That's not a good thing surely?! :wonder:

im assuming its been mapped for the vf35?

is that a std inlet, or a aftermarket silicone one?

std pipe looks like this

Sorry, forgot to mention that - it's the standard Subaru one. It was an absolute pain to get on when I changed the turbo, and I remember not being sure if it went on 'nicely' or not, but back at the time (a year ago now) it was mapped and was succesfully boosting lovely. Then about 7 months later the car started feeling really sluggish and using shed loads of fuel so I got new injectors (Nismo 555cc) and had another map and it was 'okayish' and now the lag just seems to be getting worse & worse :wonder:

That's a wee spud to hold the clip when fitting IIRC.
