Bad vibration
I am getting a bad vibration at anything above 65-70 mph which feels a bit like unbalanced wheels and when I brake the steering wheel shakes quite violently.
The brakes were recently replaced, new Godspeed discs and kevlar pads front and rear which were bedded in as per Godspeed instructions and have now covered approx 2000 miles, I know its not the discs as there is no vibration through the brake pedal. The tyres are in good condition and were recently re balanced. I'm thinking/hoping its just worn bushes, is the above a sympton of knackered wishbone bushes or maybe rack bushes or could it be something more serious? Have any of you had the same problem and what fixed it? Car is a 2001 Bugeye WRX Cheers in advance |
I have similar but more around the 80 mark so would be good to see whats suggested

Have you got spigot rings in the wheels ?
The violent juddering under braking sounds like warped disks to me - a few years ago I bought a set of disks from the local dealer - they were installed by the said dealer along with a set of pads and within days the I had the say as you - I went back and they replaced the lot for free. They tested the disks and found them to be badly warped. I hope this helps. Andy |
If it's a balancing issue it normally happens about 60mph and goes away at about 70mph .seeing as there's no judder on the brake peddle, imo id have a look at your tracking/track rod ends, wishbone bushes and ball joints .
Is there any uneven tyre wear ?,other than the round about scrub (outter passenger side inner drivers side) I know it's a bit obvious but are your wheel nuts tight ? |

Tyre wear is normal and track rod ends have only done around 10k
I cant see it being the disks as they have only done around 2k and I followed the Godspeed bedding in instructions to the letter. Will take it to my local specialist and get the bushes checked, not sure if my wheels have spigot rings fitted - they are oe sti 8 alloys so should be a direct fit afaik? |
It could be the driveshaft. Reach under the wheels and see if they have any play in them. Do you get any knocking when you turn?

I know you have stated that the brakes are new from Godspeed but, I have a similar problem to you and I am pretty sure it is a seized piston on my front calipers.
I had them refurbished by Godspeed about 2 years ago and they got them back to as good as new. But then the car was put in storage for almost a year, and it looks like 2 pistons have seized up again. My fix for this will be purchasing a complete new brake setup from Godspeed and then sending the other calipers to be refurbished again. So my point is.. Even though we all trust the work of Godspeed brakes, Have a look to see if your pistons are moving freely, you never know. |
have you tried changing the wheels front to back to see if the vibrations moves ?
it would rule out unbalanced or poorly balanced wheels. |
bug/same
Hi ive got similar prob on my bugeye under heavy braking its was vibrating & over 70mph vibration, ive changed pads/discs & found piston to be seized on 1caliper that cured the braking vibration, but ive still got vibration when over 70,be handy to no if you get yours sorted or if anyone with ideas would be great,if i find my prob i'l let you no...

Have been talking to a few people including my local Subaru specialist and the general consensus of opinion is front wishbone ball joints - which could explain the slight tugging on the steering wheel on sweeping corners and large roundabouts so I'm going to get them replaced and while they are getting done I am also having the wishbone bushes and steering rack bushes replaced with Powerflex items just to cover all the bases. :)

Well I got the car back today and its like a new car :)
Turns out the wishbone ball joints were completely fubarred - they were so loose you could almost move them just by shaking them! |
How is the handling of your car?
