It was a close call Kev but you have to draw a line and go no further. :)

I had a firm plan in my head over which direction to go if certain problems arose and then just proved too expensive to justify, I wouldn't just put it back together similar to how it was before and neither would I try and do the repair on the cheap either.

As I learnt the first time around get the cylinder heads and block checked for distortion, no point in doing on the cheap really that's a fools paradise.

I am a little sad to see it broken up but it's only a lump of metal at the end of the day.

A real shame that it's come to this Ty, but the line has to be drawn somewhere. The whole project has been a nightmare from start to finish and with hindsight I bet you wish you had kept the S202 and stayed in the fugly bug club ;)
But as you said, when all is said and done, it's just a lump of metal. Although it can be very hard to think of it that way most of the time.
Any ideas on what direction you're going next?

Ty Gutted for you mate!!

I hope you don't mind, but as you've got some cracking parts up for sale, i've put a link on the RB320oc, as i'm a Moderator on there!

Any issues with this, let me know & i'll remove it.

All the best with what you decide to get!
I've done something similar, not had your bad luck after the re-build mind!
My RB320 suffered HG failure. Had it forged by Paul Finch & sold it, where it's now with it's new owner in France!
Took me an age to decide to sell up & still can't believe it myself, as i've only had Impreza's for the last 11 years!
Saving the pennies now for a R35 ;-)

Iggy

I've said it all along that I regretted selling the S202 within 30 seconds.

As for the next car - I am leaning towards an R32/33/34 Skyline GTR but also might consider a Porsche 911 or Boxster 3.2S. :)

Sorry to hear you are breaking it Ty, i haven't been following your build thread daily but updated as much as i could when i have had a chance to get on here. You have had a run of bad luck mate and i feel sorry for you but once its gone you will feel much better, no more worrying about whats going to happen next!
Good luck with the next step mate.

Dan W 18 July 2013 09:52 AM

I echo what Ian says above, I have been following the thread on the build and the catastrophe that followed and hope you have better luck.

When I bought my first Impreza I bought a WRX and straight away had the 'power-bug'. But it was through watching and hearing about other peoples trials and tribulations that I got rid of the bug. Quite literally as my WRX was a Bug-eye. I went on to buy a blob STI PPP which -as some of you know- I drove off a bridge and into a dry river bed.

Now I have Andy Card's Hawk Eye STI which he made a few little mods to with a remap by Andy Forrest. it runs at 380BHP which is more than enough for me.

I want a balance between performance and reliability. And ultimately a car that is just a laugh to drive and not something that leaves me endlessly worried that it is about to blow up. If that happens to the car I presently have I will rebuild it with parts that can easily handle 400BHP and leave it at that.

Even though it is indeed sad to see such a good car like Ty's Spec C being broken up for parts, if the shell is up for sale perhaps we can expect a potential buyer to go on to rebuild the car with parts they acquire. Naturally that would mean that the car would go on to enjoy a new lease of life.

I my humble opinion the shell IS the car and everything else is just the bolt-on or bolt off bits. Perhaps we might see this car re-emerge like Steve Austin.
Just my humble thoughts.

I need to change my avatar pic - the car on the the left is my long dead STI -PPP.
