In Tank Fuel Pump

What everyone using these days, car will be getting an ecutek remap on standard turbo and injectors. Heard some bad stories about Walbro's lately, whats evryone using?

AS Performance 10 July 2013 08:57 PM

the Walbro issues "seem" to be mainly egay jobbies and potentially spoof??

we stock the std 255 Walbro, 450's and also the DW340's..............

Am I silly asking for a guide to fitting an in-tank?

ScoobyDoo69 12 July 2013 04:32 PM

My only advise to fitting the fuel pump from me would be don't tighten the nuts very much!

Tighten slowly and in this order, and all should be fine. Rest is self explanatory!

@Kwik:
JGM has a short writeup on his page. link
Combined with some videos from youtube (e.g. this) I was able to change mine on my MY95 WRX to a RCM340 one in about 2 hours. I guess half of the time I was thinking of a way to reuse my old filter sock to reduce fuel cuts. Couldn't find a nice and quick solution so I went with the shorter filter which came with the pump :)

Since I fitted the RCM340 about 1 1/2 years ago it has been faultless besides the well known fuel cuts with replacement pumps. Bob even managed to map the car to 311hp on V-Power at an AFR of around 11.3 at 1.4bar with the standard injectors + Simtek Pro. Not much help if someone is after a big power build but at least it's some data...

I`ve got a rcm340 pump available upgraded to a walbro 450. Pump has done about 500 mile if your intrested ?

deamon001 12 July 2013 07:12 PM

i done my walbro 255 pump last week
i used this video as reference

AS Performance 12 July 2013 07:55 PM

Yes you are. :p

It's really easy Al. Just be careful when removing and re-fitting not to bend the link for the float. :thumb:

yes that why i said he should use it as a guide not actual pump removal
pre 2005 cars you dont need to undo all the screws on the pump body as he dose in the video
one or two screws to remove the pipe from top of pump
remove pump and disconnect electrial connectors
take sock off old pump install to new one
rubber bush at bottom of pump unit fits in bottom of pump assembly
put pump on top of the rubber bush and at this stage connect elecrical connector and rubber pipe to upper pump tighten all good

what i did was a little bit of wd on the rubber pipe and slide it all the way up metal pipe so when u seat the pump all u gota do is slide the rubber pipe back down to top of pump,

Cool, thanks chaps, I'll use this thread when I change mine.

deamon001 12 July 2013 08:42 PM

disconnect the fuel pump then start the car leave it idle untill it dies to remove pressure from the lines and disconnect the negative terminal of the batt and let pressure out of the fuel tank by removing the petrol cap before removal of the pump remember once the pump is out the tank is open to atmosphere and will fill the car with petrol fumes think safety first guys

I did none of that. I had 2 tabs and a cup of tea when I swapped the pump in mine though. :D
