That seems pretty cheap. I'd be happy with that so long as I can watch lovefilm. Unless you have terrabytes of porn to torrent of course?

I am with Sky Broadband (not fibre) and am very pleased with it.
I get over 10240kbps

Test your speed here...

speedtest.net try that it'll give you an idea of what speeds you are getting.

I'm getting 2mg with sky but it's frequently drops off. By the time I call to complain its back on... Grrrr

Did have bt fibre which was amazing but very expensive

sky fibre for me costs £20 a month, unlimited download, and a 12 month contract. mine averages about 34 meg so quick enough.

I have Infinity 2 for £26 a month, on speedtest.net I get 76mbps. Of course, depends on what you are doing, if you only doing a bit of gaming, email, surfing then it's overkill.

But if you are regularly finding your speed is limiting your usage, I don't think it's expensive.

Does your phone line have any crackling noises?

Log onto the router and see what speed it thinks it has

Get on to Sky about it! Make a note of when it drops off and let them have it.
I am with Sky and I have the basic TV package as well but I changed the broadband to unlimited. When I first went to Sky for the 1st 3-4months broadband was good, then it started playing up and kept dropping out. It wasn't a major problem but it was a pain the butt. Well after about 6 months of this we finally got it sorted out. Everything was changed from my house to the pole, to the junction box, to the exchange and then the card was changed in the exchange. It was a pain but its what you pay line rental for.
The thing is, its started playing up again now and if it keeps up I will be back on the blower moaning yet again :(

Get it sorted mate :thumb:

Broadband advise is a tough one as people have great things to say about their provider, others will tell you they are dire...
Is it just broadband you are after or looking to combine a 'phone/broadband' package?
I have used TalkTalk for years, pay about £30/month for unlimited BBand (get 10Mb down), unlimited 24/7 landline calls and the dreaded line rental.

with regards to speed, google bbmax for the best speed comparison and are you connecting wirelessly...?

dave_t 10 July 2013 01:54 PM

So pays your money takes your choice.
1. Unlimited 10Mb TalkTalk including free 24/7 calls & line rental is about £30
2. Unlimited 76Mb BTInfinity including free 24/7 calls & line rental is about £49

Note.

1. Contention. All providers usable bandwith is 'shared' (called contention ratio). Most are 50:1 (meaning your 10Mb is being shared between 50 other users). From that point on you are the lap of the gods who else is using that bandwidth & how heavily.

2. Throttling. Yes you can phone your provider & tell them you have problems & they can increase your speed, just like that!

3. If you are connecting via a laptop, be careful about the wireless adapter speed, most are 'G' rated. Even if you have a super fast connection your download speed bottleneck will be the wireless adapter!

I might just upgrade to fibre optic on sky then. as I have everything with them. see what download soeeds they can offer
