TV Help...

Hi,

I need to order a TV today...

I have two choices..but not sure which to go for..

Personally I'd rather a Plasma but I'd favour the Panasonic over the Philips. Philips have had a bit of an on/off spell with TVs making some really top notch sets over the years but then falling behind. I'm sure I read somewhere as well that they are pulling out of consumer electronics entirely so it may well be the last of the brand? Panasonic on the other hand consistently get recognition in the press for making some great TVs and it's one of their main businesses.

Panny; reliable and good value.
Philips: neither of those.

Do you have to buy now? Its the worst time to buy a TV.

If you do have to but now then my choice would be the Panasonic and my screen if choice is Plasma.

Although don't forget the Plasma will need re-gassing every 5 years*

*might not be true ;)

Sony for me, and very happy... Used to have a Pioneer Plasma and the Sony is almost as good - OK it's not as good picture wise, but it's miles and miles better than the LG and Samsung I had in between... ;)

panasonic every time, phillips software is terrible on their tv's

I had a plasma - it gives out allot of heat..now broken as my little one thought shed bounce a basket ball off it..!

i made a floating wall for the 50" hence i cant go any smaller...

wanted to keep the costs low as i need a tv - thought if i get a LED, could save on power, heat etc..

John Lewis do free returns...so maybe i could give it back if its ****...

Have you had a look at richer sounds! They have deals every weekend on tvs!! I bought a 42" lg LCD for 300quid!!! Annoying but if you sign up to the email deals you get money off and deals all the time!

We've got one of these:

It's a 2011 model, but my goodness is it impressive. I changed a new Toshiba LED set for it and it's so much better than that it's unreal. I wouldn't touch LED now.

Go to a shop that has a selection of units on display.
Bring a DVD/bluray with you and ask them to let you play it on tv's that you like the look of.
Then make your own choice based on that.
Places like richer sounds will most definitely oblige a request like that.

I certainly wouldn't make a purchase based on the opinion of others.

My Sony TV failed twice requiring new parts like a motherboard or something?

It's the only Sony product that has ever failed on me except for a laptop years ago, but strictly speaking it was the Toshiba HDD that failed in it.

That's what I've got but paid £1600 for it in 2011. Stunning set.

They are. We had a bit of a problem with our first one but Panasonic got it sorted and it's been superb ever since. I think ours was around that sort of price, but it included a five year Panasonic warranty and I've yet to see anything better.
