throttle body coolant by pass ?
I'm fitting my new engine this weekend and was wondering whether it's worth doing the coolant by pass mod .As due to the layout of the scooby engine I'd doubt the throttle body would ever get cold enough to freeze . Therfore (id imagine) all it's doing is increasing the intake temps , or have I overlooked something ?

Correct,do it....

Seemed to make sence but ,it's always nice to get a second opinion .

Easy mod.... do it!!

As above

only usefull if you live in Siberia then?
|
Simple mod.
did mine ages ago. do it |
Thanks again for the comments fellas:thumb:
One more question though :rolleyes:do I by pass the icv as well (as the same feed runs through it ) or just by pass the throttle body ? |
Thought id bump this as I need to know tonight ,whether to by pass the icv as well , cos I'll be fitting my forged self build tomorrow :-)
Cheers Clive |
Yep just join the coolant hoses together. What year car? As mine only has the one inlet and one outlet. Nothing at all on the icv.

does this actually do anything???

Nothing you will ever notice :)

thanks for the link bud :thumb:
im not to sure i'll notice any gains either but, could'nt see the point of having a tmic (which suffer from heat soak anyways)trying to cool the air only to be warmed by the throttle body having warm fluid pumped through it :wonder: its a v3 fella and the feed for the throttle body comes from a small pipe from the block through the throttle body ,out the other side ,through the icv and back into the small bore water pipe pic of my inlet with the pipe attached to the icv but not the throttle body http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/v...psbd2692e9.jpg |
If the hoses also go to the ICV then could this be to regulate the idle as the engine warns up? If you bypass this you may have a high idle at normal operating temperatures. I don't know this for sure but wondered why the coolant passed to the ICV?

Sorry to bring up an old yhread can this be done on a blob eye 05plate wrx
|
i did this and had no problems , only danger is icing up in very low temps ( throttle sticks open ) its there really out of safety i think.
