What Engine?

My 2000 (w) P1 has dropped a big end shell

I had a 1998 engine being delivered for it but courier dropped it. :brickwall

I am on a learning curve here as only owned car for 8 weeks, first scooby.

exactly what is the score with engines for my car, I think if a later engine is fitted I may need to fit my heads, or completely change loom and ecu, is that correct?

If I fit an earlier engine then I think I need to fit my manifold, loom and ecu will be ok.

Can someone just confirm I am right, and any other advice would be greatly appreciated as still looking for an engine, thanks.

A 2000 year w reg should have the phase 2 engine in it, which is different to the earlier versions in a few ways. the manifold isnt interchangeable between a 99 onwards and a 98 or earlier. the bolt patterns are different. so that 98 engine you had arriving wouldnt have fitted without changing heads, then manifold and still would be a pain and not as good as the previous p1 engine. You either need an engine from another p1 or STi. Fitting a 99 onwards wrx/uk engine would work but the ecu would be incorrect as the internals and heads are different with different rev limits and boost pressures as standard. Id rebuild the block you have, remap and then have piece of mind that you wouldnt get with a 2nd hand ebay engine :)

Thanks for reply, interesting as i have been told the earlier version engines fitted with manifold changed.
I was so happy with my engine, lightened flywheel and race clutch and it has the JDM diff lock gearbox/rear diff set up. I think this box has different gearing, so top end speed probably about 125 instead of 155, but wicked 0-60 time and no turbo lag.
I would have my engine rebuilt but can find no one to take job on... at least not here in west sussex.
There is a company in London who would do job for £1200 fitted, but do not trust them or their 12 month gaurantee... just to cheap I think.

Slowboy racing is in Kent (brands hatch). Not too far from Sussex depending on which part you're in.
