Quick Question about the WRX intercooler
I'm new to the forum, and wasn't sure where to post, but I'm after a bit of info from other Subaru owners. I have just recently bought myself a bug eye Subaru impreza wrx prodrive. I'm very happy with the performance of the car, but have noticed that the intercooler is a bit worn out and could do with replacing. I'm thinking about upgrading it with sti intercooler, will I need to do anything to the car, or is it a straight swap?
I found one other post with the same sort of question, but it wasn't the remapped prodrive version, I just want to make sure that it won't cause any problems before I go ahead. |
yeah you can swap them over, but you need the brackets and also the scoop undertray to make full use of the larger surface area

Thanks for the reply so I need STI intercooler brackets and a STI undertray scoop, will that fit on the standard WRX scoop or will I need to buy a STI scoop aswell? Also will it give me any gain's in terms of performance, why I ask is the difference between a standard intercooler and STI counter part is about £150 approx, and I would like to weigh up my option's before I make a decision.

Sti intercooler is more efficent over 350bhp.
You wouldnt really notice any performance difference in wrx ppp but itll still be more efficent at keeping temps down you wont need an sti scoop |
I don't think the STi intercooler undertray fins will fit under the WRX scoop? What I do know is its essential to get the undertray and the seal that creates over the STi intercooler.

Bugeye wrx and sti use same scoop, blobeye sti got the bigger scoop and diff undertray

I'm almost certain the STi scoop is slightly taller.
