Some info for you, quite a good read.

Oh im aware its on the plaque lads, but its also on the plaque on other models to.
There isn't actually a WRC edition, its just what subaru put on the plaques.

Three different models all with "wrc limited edition" written on the plaque.

Yer this has always confused me, when I was first looking at it there was a thread set up for 'Wrc editions' which led me to believe it was. That link seems to clear it up for me though, cheers

rooferman 18 July 2013 08:01 AM

Version 5 also has 555 .... But not on v6 .... Just to confuse matters...

Update time!

Well after getting my expensive wedding 'out of the way' I have been desperate to get the type R out of hibernation.

At the time of the last update I had just purchased an Alkatec ECU, finally I have booked in on 23rd for a remap with Mark at TDR. Cannot wait!

I have since purchased a FMIC which I wanted to fit prior to mapping so this winter has been a case of slowly prepping that. Considering I am not a dab hand at mechanics it has so far worked out well.
Pipework was a brand new HDi set but I prefer the look of gloss black so I had them powder coated. Still had to chop the pipework in two places for it to fit right, once near the brake servo and once near the DV outlet.
Just waiting on a DV adapter so i can re-fit the standard DV and i'll finish the rest of the ancillary bits off.

My front bumper is off for a respray and minor repair (fibreglass!) so it should all look nice and shiney when it is back together. Blue oil cap also fitted in lieu of red one. Also fitted a lovely new alloy rad with twin slim line fans.

Also have got half way through a Prosport boost gauge install on the steering column, will finish the final wiring off on the 23rd when i am down TDR.

In the meantime some pics of the progress...

Started car for the first time this year yesterday, and it started without any dramas!
Popped 10litres of fresh 99ron in there before starting up just so i can get to the petrol station without only running on 5 month old fuel, will top up tomorrow before getting to TDR.

Will drop some fresh oil in tomorrow morning before the mapping commences.

Initially i'm going for two maps, standard boost map and 'fun' map. Spec is standard ej20 on VF29, FMIC, K&N induction, 3" full through exhaust, standard 440's, 255lt fuel pump. Figures wise, the right side of 300 would be nice but not too bothered either way as long as it remains responsive - it is what the close ratio type r box is all about ;-)

Welloilbeefhooked 23 April 2014 07:33 AM

Yeah, that type r box! I like it because I never suffer lag on gearchange. When I first drove the car I thought I had clutch slip as it was instantly on boost!

I am thinking about popping in a ty752vbcaa box to raise the gearing slightly. Dccd bolted on of course.

Wont your front mount add extra lag though?

averyp2 23 April 2014 10:05 AM

Possibly a little with the current turbo yes, but we'll see how it reacts when fully mapped. FMIC is more a future proofing thing, target with new turbo etc in future would be mid to late 300's. Plus I'm a tart and I think it looks good ;-)

Had a nice drive out on Saturday to blow a few cobwebs off the old boy, picked up a few stragglers along the way!

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...pse9e299c6.jpg

All cars are actually very well matched;
1) my V6 type R running 300bhp on 5 speed DCCD
2) Dads mates standard Prodrive Bugeye
3) Dads modded WRX Blobeye, I think around 330bhp on 5 speed
4) Brother-in-laws CL63 AMG

AMG has so much torque when already moving that it could pull away from me on the straights, cornering was very well matched but I was not too pushy given it was the first time I had driven the DCCD in the wet!

Funny that the AMG has a bigger engine than the 3x Imprezas together! THAT exhaust note on the AMG however is certainly a match for the Scoobies, especially on downshift. If I had the money that would be my daily driver for sure.

Back to mine, had a parcel arrive from Importcarparts this morning ;-)
Brand new limited edition blue gear and stereo surround to replace my faded/repainted items, plus a few extras

Wow, 5 and 1/2 years since the last update has gone quickly!

Not a lot has happened to the Type R in that time other than general maintenance. Life (loft conversion, kitchen extension, baby) gets in the way! I also got carried away fiddling with my daily M135i which is also a great car.

Impreza was SORN for a couple of years due to other commitments and two flat tyres but is now taxed, with Gold Revs, new Toyo T1R's and is booked in at TDR in a few weeks for some work.

I have had an inlet powder coated red and when fitting i will add the new 550 injectors, FPR and newage coilpack conversion. I'll probably sell the CDF rails though, and the TD05 20g and swirl pot set-up i had have been sold as it was overkill. I've also acquired some new front brakes to replace the standard 4 pots - some Wilwood Superlites which have now been refurbished by Godspeed.

As the car will need a remap post injector change i'm hoping to try and get hold of a Harvey up-pipe prior, and looking at porting the headers etc to get the most out of the remap.

Think that's about where i'm at. Will try and add any pics below...

The two motors as they currently stand. Both very different cars but equally as fun in their respective ways!

Just lovely! A version 6 Type R Limited is definitely the ultimate classic for me - maybe one day! I also owned a pre-facelift M135i - if I could have justified it and a scoob together it would have stayed!

averyp2 14 April 2020 11:29 AM
