Just got a Weber Bbq anyone made beer can chicken.

I have just bought a Weber one touch Charcoal grill is there any other bits and pieces I should buy.

I really want to try Beer can chicken this week any one done it any tips?

Do I need to buy a weber poultry stand or just put the beer can in there.

Any one know some good BBQ forums I can use.

I think you could just pull the ring on the can and then sort of "fit" the chicken over it so it should stand up with the weight of the beer in the can. Are you using Red Stripe?

Make sure that you put the charcoal down each side of the grid, with a (foil) tray full of water in the middle. Indeed you could even try beer instead ;)

That way the oven will keep the chicken moist.

I've done it a couple of times, though it's not a favourite recipe. Beer is bitter, and chicken shouldn't be.

I prefer to roast the chicken over the coals with some wet hickory chunks, and gently smoke it for a couple of hours. Add home made bbq sauce and wash it down with the beer.

Today's BBQ is a whole spit roasted gammon joint... hopefully ready in about an hour or so :)

You guys sound really inventive with your BBQ food.... I just buy a bunch of burgers, sausages, and chicken drum sticks, chuck them all on the BBQ and job done...

Found a pic of last time I did this recipe, looks like there's no particular support required other than some careful balancing and a chicken that's not too big:
