To answer your question NEVER.SJ.

hodgy0_2 09 June 2013 09:21 AM

Agreed, never, no matter what the carnage is, no matter how many men, women and children are slaughtered

Simply put, America without gun ownership (and the corresponding massacres) would not be America

They are simply disappearing up their own arseholes ( not a bad thing tbh)

alcazar 09 June 2013 09:37 AM

How are they going to learn?

Probably one of the sickest societies in the world, yet they hold themselves up to others as "the land of the free" and other such rubbish.

They are a shining example of, "Do as we say, not as we do", just as WE were under Lying Labour.

DYK 09 June 2013 10:21 AM

Makes you think why someone would just go out and randomly shoot people in the first place.

yabbadoo4 09 June 2013 11:12 AM

one simple answer ....the national rifle association.

f1_fan 09 June 2013 11:32 AM

They need more guns... more guns ... that's the answer ;)

Ha, the last time it happened at that school that was the answer, more guns in schools for defence purposes. Kind of missing the fcuking point really.:cuckoo:

yabbadoo4 09 June 2013 11:55 AM

as robin williams said: "you have the right to bear arms, or the right to arm bears, whatever the hell you wanna do"

It makes me laugh when people say "Americans" bla bla bla. A country with a population of around 315,968,000 people and about the size of europe yet people stereotype "americans".
Its pretty ludicrous really . Are we stereotyped as europeans ? British people considered to have the same cultures, attitudes, way of life as say the Spanish or the Finish ect?. Personally i have spent time in the USA and have many friends in several states. I have several friends in California and non of them own guns. They seem to have the same attitude and fears as us regarding gun ownership. I have a friend in Texas which is considered the gun toting capitol. He owns several guns including a suppressed assault rifle and a Barrett 50 cal. He does not carry for personal protection, he just has them for a sporting hobby. He lives in Austin Tex which is quite different from the rest of Texas. I know a bloke from Tennessee, now he carrys a gun all the time, he is a staunch Republican and would be quite willing to have a shoot out to the death if the authority's tried to take his guns. He is how many view all americans, which is very sad.

cster 09 June 2013 05:19 PM

Yeah - we are so superior to Americans blah blah blah !

his-n-her-scoobs 10 June 2013 12:51 AM

You really think the gangsters and other non law abiding retards are going to give up their guns because they are banned?

It's an education problem not a hardware problem. Law abiding citizens don't go round killing people, even if they have 10 guns each. Look at Switzerland.

The gun is not the problem, it is the people.

Take away the guns and they'll use knives, take away the knives and they'll use golf clubs, take away the golf clubs and they'll use cars, take away the cars?

:wonder:

hodgy0_2 10 June 2013 07:03 AM

How many people do you think you could kill if you went on a killing spree with a golf club

Btw Very few of these mass killing sprees are purpetrated by "gangsters"

But what about the mentally-ill? How many times do we hear of people go on a gun rampage and then are later declared insane? Restricting access is the only way you can stop that happening.

Shaid 10 June 2013 08:23 AM

Just yanks killing one another.

Leave them to it.

Depends how many members of the club had guns and a penchant for mass murder ;)

So why do they not have this problem in places like Switzerland?

Up until 2007 nearly all men of military age and fit for active service had their own rifle and 50 rounds of ammo issued to keep at home in case of invasion.

most of these mass killings are done by people with no previous history of criminality

I have no idea. I watched Bowling for Columbine where Michael Moore looked at this exact issue, and it basically came down to a difference in culture rather than laws or education.

But the two countries are very different, and just because one works with one system, another country may not. Either the US has to restrict access to guns much more strictly than now, or they have to live with gun rampages.

So why not ban knives as well then?

We already have a situation in this country were a 16 year old can bear children, set up home, work etc but cannot walk into the local supermarket and buy a knife to cook or eat with. Lets take this to a logical conclusion and ban knives for all.

:)

can you respond to my observation

Doh!!!!!!!!

Doh!!!!!!!!

Was removed within 30 seconds as it was not a response to your observation, nice to see you were watching my every word so avidly tho, that refresh button must be working overtime :D
The point I am so unsuccessfully trying to make is that banning guns is not going to prevent violent crime.
2 points
1. Banning guns will result in only the law abiding citizens not having guns
2. Anyone that decides he is going to kill people is going to find a way regardless of whether guns are legal or not. Look at the amazing weapons manufactured by inmates of most criminal institution.
So if someone decides to go on a killing spree in a shopping precinct with a car what are you going to do, ban cars? Car owners are not even required to undertake the most basic of criminal or psychological tests.

his-n-her-scoobs 10 June 2013 12:13 PM

dpb,

nice to see you researching before trolling lol

from your own input

"Still, the Alpine country had roughly 0.5 gun homicides per 100,000 inhabitants in 2010 compared with 3.6 in the U.S"

What is the rate in the uk?

:)

his-n-her-scoobs 10 June 2013 12:24 PM

Found it. http://www.gunpolicy.org/firearms/region/united-kingdom
Interesting reading (or I am really bored)

Apparently 0.25 gun deaths per 100,000

Not good really. So what should we do, exercise some form of gun control here?

:wonder:

Tidgy 10 June 2013 12:32 PM

some countrys have laws about all adults must have an assault rifle for call up for national service, yet there gun crimes level is extreamly low. They get educated and trained to use them.

What can you learn from this? Education is much better than blanket bans
