Sparrow, i wouldn't hang around here with that Falcon lurking about, she'll have ya :D

They are stunning birds to look at, they are like missiles on the move. We get a female sparrowhawk in our garden, i know when she's about as the blackbirds go mental, hardly suprising as she keeps nicking them.

Cpt Jack Sparrow 06 June 2013 10:43 PM

I get one in my garden regularly too:thumb:

Great pic, ive quite often been greeted by that circle of feathers mess as well, you know she's been for dinner.

daz3883 06 June 2013 10:55 PM

Pretty sure that course is the one in blaenau ffestiniog, quality vid by the way

alcazar 06 June 2013 11:01 PM

Wrong bird, though. They used a peregrine as it's the fastest...in a dive.

If he'd been up against either a Merlin or a Hobby, he'd not have made 200m before it had him. A Hobby can catch swifts IN FLIGHT!!!

This is pretty cool

dpb 07 June 2013 11:39 AM

Getting a talon in the face my mistake would smart a bit I should think!

CrisPDuk 07 June 2013 12:55 PM

Before I even clicked on the link I knew thew words 'Red Bull' would feature somewhere :D

You've got to love the stuff they think of to spend their money on :thumb:

In public awareness terms though, the Peregrine is the big boy in the raptor world, that's probably why they used one

Availability was probably also a factor :wonder:

EPIC...thanks for sharing :)

LSherratt 07 June 2013 01:35 PM

Awesome :) The bit at 2:22 is my favourite part.

On the farm I always see some type of bird of prey out and about. I don't know anything about birds other than the basic's and I'd be interested to know which one I'm seeing. I am assuming it's "a hawk?"

Join the club, i'm no expert either. I only know the stuff that comes in our garden, Sparrowhawks seem to pop up in peoples gardens quite a lot so maybe its one of them, with living on a farm though it could be anything as you have all the wildlife on your doorstep. It could even be a vulture thats got lost :D

stonejedi 07 June 2013 03:05 PM

Very good.SJ.

Cpt Jack Sparrow 07 June 2013 03:13 PM

My favourite has to be the Red kite though, get a lot over the fields behind me... Big buggers too....

Paul

The Sheep Worrier 07 June 2013 04:01 PM

Awesome watch that.

We get a lot of red kites in these parts, we went out in the crossers across the hill a couple of weeks ago, stopped for a water/fag break and there was one literally about 15ft away flying above us, he/she looked pretty damn menacing at that close range!

As with others have posted, I have limited knowledge on birds, should get some books and learn them really, apparently talking to some old farmer friends there are certain parts where you could be lucky enough to see a golden eagle, however they (as I can understand) wont tell me exactly where ;-)

SJ_Skyline 07 June 2013 04:13 PM

Just awesome :)

Fell like singing "Country Boy" by Primal Scream at this exact moment ;)

trails 08 June 2013 09:01 AM

Hey Country Bumpkin more like :p

ditchmyster 08 June 2013 09:37 AM

I wish I knew more about the various types of bird of prey, there are a few brown eagle type birds I see regularly, closet thing I can find that looks like them is the short toed eagle or the lesser spotted eagle, I quite often look into their eyes they are so close which is amazing, as I'm close to Cres in Croatia I occasionally see what I think is the odd bustard, god knows how high they get but they are huge, there are loads of large birds that migrate this way so could be anything, apparently it's an up and coming twitchers location.:D

David Lock 08 June 2013 01:04 PM

Which are the ones they have in London parks to keep the pigeons away?

Leslie 08 June 2013 04:03 PM

Good video.

I bet the falcon was thinking" I wish he would go a bit faster to make it more interesting!"

Les :)

Could be one of many depending on the pest clearance company. Anything from Harris Hawks to Peregrine Falcons are used for clearing nuisance birds.

For those who mentioned they wish they knew what was on their farm the most common raptor in the Buzzard. They will soar high and slow and feed mainly on carrion but will also hunt rabbits and small mammals especially this time of the year for feeding their young.

For those seen in gardens it will 99% be a Sparrow Hawk which are there hunting your garden birds.

Here is one in my garden recently, he let me get to within 6' of him:

https://i1108.photobucket.com/albums...-04-06041a.jpg

The Peregrine in the film if i'm not mistaken is trained by the bloke who goes on Springwatch a lot with many various trained birds from raptors to corvids and who provides trained birds to the film industry - his name escapes me at this moment.
