Classic spats / aero splash guards question

Are there different materials of the classic Impreza splash guards / spats?
I have 4 x rubber pieces, the bits which sit behind the front wheels and behind the rear wheels, seen in black on my car....

I wanted to colour code them like people do to match the skirts, but the spray shops say the paint will not last very long and would prefer not to paint them?!!!

Are they also made in plastic or fibreglass and I've got the wrong set for what I need? :freak3:

The OE spats are rubber Cliff but I have seen fibreglass versions...never seen any that fit very well though; without the compliance of the rubber material they never seem to sit right. :)

I don't suppose you know if the ones people colour code are rubber do you, or do people only code the fibreglass ones?

I'm pretty sure you can paint them, surely a flexible undercoat would work...PM Prodriverules (Ryan), and ask him; the man has excellent body-shop skills and should be able to answer your questions :)

A good paint shop will paint the rubber ones.
Yours deffo want doing, they just look out of place at the mo.

Stick with the rubber ones Cliff they fit correctly, I have seen both in the past and did have some painted once myself, from memory there's an additive they mix with the paint to make it flexible.

Plastic primer?

I've got painted rubber ones.

The side that faces the wheel is starting to peel but they get more punishment than any other part of the car.

I tend to avoid cleaning it, that way people think i'm lazy at cleaning cars instead of having flaking paint :)

ive had mine painted and the bodyshop used plasticiser so the paint stays flexible but they still crack and eventually peel away :(
