First scoob.
Spent 2k on a cheap classic then 'upgrade' to a newage or nice type r or save the extra and go straight for something decent? Ultimately love 2 doors type r's and the P1 but also love a blob STI. Putting £3-400 pm away so doesnt take long to save the extra and insurance covered

If you like a certain model,why would you settle for anything less?you will end up wasting time and money trying to make the car the one you wished youd bought:brickwall.

Type R is can be quite a handful
P1 although good is a Type R with the goodies removed although that makes it less of a handful imo.

Newage STI have stronger gearboxes,better brakes,DCCD (not sure which newage STI that started on though)

I bought a cheap (£1200) UK wagon thinking it would scratch the itch.
After losing about £900 on the wagon (I had a major service and still lost out big time) I'm now on a low milage Type R and a Mk4Golf tdi runaround and couldn't be happier.
I can see where you're coming from, wondering if just getting a scoob turbo will cure that itch but here I am with 350bhp and now I'm willing to spend over 10k in the hunt for more.

P.S. When you look at it, the P1s demand a disproportionate premium. Those in the know will know that a Type R is superior to a P1 :thumb:

Save for the car you actually want, everything else would not be satisfying! I searched for about 2 years for my black type r , well worth it. The dccd makes the car a lot more lively.

Prodrive got jap type r's took out the DCCD, put smaller rear brakes on, new bodykit, called it the P1.

Agreed save for the car that you want and some..

It's a money hungry addiction and if speed is your thrill you will see no end to the expense 😊

Is this seriously the only difference's? If so why are P1's around double the price for a TypeR?. Having never driven a P1 I can't compare it to my TypeR.

P1 brakes are the same as the Type R (but not the V3 Type R)
ABS was put in but doesn't work with DCCD
No intercooler waterspray (ABS module is in the same place as the water bottle)
P1 is limited edition so people would spend more money.
P1 suspension is more suited to UK roads imo.

save up and get the one you want

i love the type R, but wouldn't pay the extra for a P1
the blob sti is a great car too, but it's a completely different type of car

drive both and see which you prefer

You can get a cheap classic for around £1250 or less, may not be exactly what you want but its a buyers market atm.
So probably best to wait and save and get what you want first time :thumb: As you probably wont get the money back on the classic :(

As has been said many times before, depends what it's for.

Fun weekend/toy car = Type r

Quick daily = New age.

If you buy a "stop gap/itch scratch" car you'll end up throwing a shed load of cash at it and you won't be saving £4/500 a month, you'll be spending it trying to polish a turd.;)
