what to fit on newage wrx before remap?

I have 2002 bug wagon on 80,000 miles. Im not bothered about bhp numbers, but I want the car to have torque and spool up early so lots of useable power.

I have already fitted godspeed brakes and a doluck filter, so im looking at what else to fit before I get the remap done and just getting opinions from anyone who has been there and done it.

Im planning to fit the following:
  • a sti uppipe
  • centre decat
  • walbro pump
  • cat back exhaust ppp or simlar

Also thinking about, but not sure if they will really give me much more bang for buck
  • decat downpipe
  • sti headers
  • 3 port boost solenoid
  • sti top mount

The only thing in your list that would help a bit more is the de-cat down pipe, you'll only need the rest if you go for a bigger turbo.:thumb:

The more cats you delete then the more power you will get ... Simples, I Would only fit the extra things if you are changing the turbo, a good upgrade would be vf34, vf35 should see 300-330bhp
On the standard td04 you will see 280 tops generally, the map will make it run smoother and iron out any flat spots etc etc

Cheers for the advice, really appreciated. I spoke to the guys at pole position and they were talking about the carberry map by andy carr which sounds great.

If I want fast spool on a td04, is there much difference between 2.5" or 3" system without cats? On n/a cars I have regretted going for big exhausts as they rob power and sound boomy but I think different rules apply to turbo cars.

2.5" is better until somewhere around 350bhp.

stick with a 2.5" exhaust for the TD04, And I wouldn't bother with the uprated fuel pump either. For a stock turbo remap I'd say panel filter and full decat is all you'll need (a full decat will mean needing to swap the exhaust over for the MOT mind you).

Andrew Carr is an ace mapper, he sorted out my impreza for me when seemingly no one else could, now it runs sweet as a nut!

I'd leave the headers and turbo as they are if you're after quick spool rather than big bhp numbers. 2.5" is fine for that power.

Fully decat and remap, walbro 255 will see you about 280bhp which makes a fast road car on a TD04 as they spool so fast. Then spend any change on suspension/brakes ;)

Go for a walbro 255 pump as Steve said. Its a low cost item and keeps the engine safe. I've got a sports cat downpipe and all the rest decatted. Mine made 280bhp /290 torques and pulls like a train even with a td04 in place
:D

No need for a carberry type re-map for a TD04........ open source simple re-map will be fine :)
