F1 drivers comfortable
Watching F1 every few weeks , I get the feeling that these current crop of drivers are too comfortable . They earn their living too easy and are not willing to take any risks .
Mega dough no tax living in Monaco . Safety has resulted in the sterile racing we see today. Its more dangerous negotiating the M25 than being a driver in F1. The last death was almost 20 years ago - Senna .Now he really did have balls ! And i don't even want to talk about Moss ! |

Is Hamilton's form due to him being an average driver in an average car or because he hasn't the fire in his belly any more. What more could he want in life? It does seem that the up and coming drivers are more willing to take chances.

Of course its dangerous - but nowhere as dangerous as it used to be - Another fact The drivers are content not to push their limits ,unlike their predecessors- My opinion. There is very little racing per se , races are won and lost on tyre changes and strategy - they don't even have to refuel now. All makes for very boring viewing |
Can't really comment on present F1,i lost interest and not been into it since the days of Hakkinen and Schumacher,they at least did keep it a bit exciting some of the battles they had.
Go back to the days of Senna and it was on the edge of your seat racing,i suppose they could get away with more overtakes etc back then than you can today.. I guess quite a few sports have gone almost the same way. |

Monte Carlo is the worst.The F1 equivalent of the 'Jolly Boys Outing'. Totally unsuitable for modern F1. If they actually banned overtaking there would anyone notice?

Not allowed to race to a certain extent these days as if you accidentally bump into someone you get a drive through penalty so no one wants to take the risk...You know just like Lewis did a few years back and got called Dangerous.. Irresponsible...Wreckless etc.

Now this is racing, properly intense and exciting, when drivers did what they had to do to gain position and their rivals did the same, not crying o the FIA for being overtaken. There's more excitement in this 4min vid than a whole season of modern F1.

Boring. I tried to watch today and fell asleep....
Who'd bother, watch for the first three laps, then FFWD to the last ten laps to see whose tyre management worked best ? Yawn ! dunx P.S. Who'd buy a Pirelli tyre based to this "show" ? |
Good start, then got boring, I also fell asleep.
Pitstops have got boring to watch, it's a fantastic achievement what they do in such a short time, but there's little excitement left in the pitstops. It's not the (TV) spectator sport that it used to be. |
It's not about the best driver anymore it's about which car can make its tyres last the longest so racing has become as exciting as watching paint dry.They are probably driving at 80 percent max.

The sad thing is that there were over 80 piststops.
FAR too many imho. And Spain is a boring/processional race anyway. Monte Carlo will be the same, unless there's some spectacular shunt. |

Maybe someone would suggest that for 4 races a year they use a second car that has no electronics... Purely carb powered!

the cars don't use that many electronics nowadays, no traction control or abs so they aren't easy to drive. |

Sitting here watching the highlights with my 8 year old son who loves it - I don't find it all that exciting anymore and really prefer BTCC. But as someone else said, F1 was a fantastic spectacle in the days of Mansell, Senna et al, and before them in the time of Hunt and Lauda. |
While the racing was arguably more exciting back in the day, watching drivers / spectators / marshals get killed was too high a price to pay for it, naturally it got safer and by definition it will be less exciting. It has evolved, and so has the racing. We could get rid of Kers/DRS and such, but the racing would be even more processional.
But to say the drivers are any less hungry, I have no idea where you get that theory from? |

Doesn't look very comfortable to me , loosing up to 2 kg in fluid during a race. Pulling 5+ G .
I think it's great that the cars are so safe . I certainly didn't think when Simoncelli died , wow this is exciting I love watching people die . I can't understand why anyone would want Motorsport to be less safe. If you want racing action watching the GP2 sprint race was proper edge of the seat stuff . |

I think mansell was referring to the older cars, nowadays traction control and abs is banned so the cars are harder to drive. I love btcc but it sometimes its just glorified banger racing where they just push each other out of the way, hardly cutting edge racing. |
