Engine bay Sound Proofing
Hi guys
I've noticed the foam attached to the underside of my bonnet has obviously started to degrade, I'm getting bits of it in the engine bay and if I poke it clouds of yellow dust puff out. Is this just sound proofing or does it also act as a heat shield protecting the paintwork of the bonnet? Does anyone know where I can replacement foam? I'm guessing it has to be heat and fire resistant. Or better still can it be removed altogether? |
Removed mine as it went the same as yours, looks loads better without it.
I read somewhere its actually designed to put out a fire in the engine bay by dropping down onto the engine. |
Ta, I have just been out and removed it now, it looked tatty and I didn't like the idea of all the fine dust coming off it and finding it's way into the cabin.
I have found some self adhesive heat resistant material online so I think I'll get that and apply it to the areas of the bonnet that are single skin just to be on the safe side. |
Its not needed, I have ran my car without for 7 years.
