Classic wrx won't start!
Hi guys, after having my scooby parked up for 3 months it won't start.
It has had a new battery It turns over fine It is getting fuel, but doesn't fire. It has new plugs It was running fine when I parked it up It's a 95 wrx import! Thanks |
It needs air, fuel, spark & compression (all at the right time) to fire. Your timing shouldn't have changed, so if your 100% sure it's getting fuel and its sparking it must be an air problem? Try removing your air filter and try again. I've seen air filters turn solid lumps and stop air flowing through them.
To check its sparking remove a spark plug and connect coil pack and earths the side of the plug while you crank it over. It should spark. Also try unplugging MAF, and if that doesn't work swap crank & cam sensors. |
check your coil pack ....the ends evan with the ht leads on rusted up on mine ....once cleaned was ok
hope you get it started |
And don't touch the throttle BEFORE cranking it over, it can cause it to flood.
If you suspect it's flooded, keep cranking and slowly depress the throttle to the floor. |
definitely need to check for spark. If no spark and coils/ leads/ plugs OK then make sure your grounds are OK by doing a voltage drop test WHILST CRANKING. If grounds OK then it may be your main relay which is the problem. This is brown, in the middle of a bracket above the fuse box and is a right pain to get to! Had a problem with mine and had to remove fuse box to get to it.

ok guys, I have checked that relay, working fine and fuel pump is ok. i will check for a spark next on tuesday and let you know how i get on as car is in works carpark.
