ESPN no longer on Sky?

Anyone else get the letter from Sky saying your ESPN subscription will end in July?

Looks like BT bought the ESPN rights but reading different things about whether or not it will be accessible via a Sky box.

Skys own forums suggest not:

If it wasnt for UFC and TUF I would have got rid a long time ago.

I've had that letter today too, I only have it for the EPL so not a massive issue though if it was I'd be buggered as I can't get BT at my house.

I've just been on to the sky website and given my 31 days notice to cancel, that'll save me £18:D

P1Fanatic 02 May 2013 11:48 AM

£18? You didnt just cancel ESPN then as that was "only" £10.

P1Fanatic 02 May 2013 11:52 AM

Still amazes me at how crap our EPL coverage is say compared to the Bundesliga in Germany. They can watch all their teams matches yet we get limited to whatever Sky & ESPN decide are best.

This whole nonsense about showing all games on Saturday live will affect attendances seems stuck in the dark ages to me. Doesnt appear to have affected Bundesliga attendances - I think Dortmund have the 2n highest average attendance in Europe only behind Barca and the Nou Camp has approx 20k more capacity!!

In fact 6 of the top 10 average attendances are German Teams!

It's £9, two months worth ;)

Ant 06 May 2013 02:27 AM

not happy, whos got the right for ufc then?

yabbadoo4 06 May 2013 06:07 AM

Espn have the rights bud so you will need bt vision or something I think to get it now

P1Fanatic 06 May 2013 07:37 AM

Seems more like ESPN lost almost everything except US Sports. Lets see what channel BT offer Sky Subscribers and how much it will be. Notice how Sky just mail you as little info as possible as they dont want to advertise they lost to BT.

Hoping its same price but if nearer £15pm time to drop it for me.

Hows that? Did you pay upfront for a year or something as I and everyone else I know watching via Sky pays £10pm.

Just had a look and I have been paying £10 since September, before that it was £9. So saving £20 :D

nothing from virgin about it stopping, watch alot fo the basketball on epsn so be duckign anoyed if it does go, one of the reasons we stayed with virgin.

g7prs 06 May 2013 10:10 AM

Gutted! I wondered about the wording of the letter not offering to take out another subscription. TUF and UFC were the only reason I signed up for it.

espn will see the error in their ways when they see subs dramatically fall

g7prs 09 May 2013 06:31 PM

Otherwise £18 a month for HD on Sky. Sod that for a game of soldiers. I hope Dana and co sort something out as otherwise their plans of seeing UFC growth in the UK they can kiss goodbye.

Too right, Dana isn't daft too I can see it on sky sports by the end of the year

P1Fanatic 09 May 2013 09:02 PM

Not sure on that. They had the chance last time their ESPN contract was coming up for renewal. Possibly as Sky were focusing on taking over F1. It was on Sky but ppv originally and Dana doesnt want ppv in the UK as still trying to increase fan base.

g7prs 09 May 2013 09:15 PM

It was mentioned on the news that BT have spent 1billion on getting these contracts. Sky have seamingly stopped all bt advertising on their sports channels. Which is now being looked at by some commission or other.
