1994 wrx sti Jdm

Good evening all,
I have just purchased my first impreza this weekend, took the car for a drive earlier and there is a loud noise coming from the engine under acceleration but not at idle it sounds like piston slap, although would this happen when at idle too? I'm hoping my first impreza ain't going to cost me already as I let a mint 850r go for this car. One thing I have noticed is there is 5w 50 millers nanotechnology in the car this seems too thin to me, any help would be massively appreciated,, car is booked in at scooby clinic tomorrow so hopefully they will point mean right direction.

Internet diagnosis of noises is very hard but since you're taking it to Scoobyclininc tomorrow they should be able to sort it out.

As above.

Also, I'd agree that the oil is too thin. Slappy pistons are usually only noticed under cold start, IIRC.

Yeah it's weird it only does it at about 2500-2700rpm,
Loving the drive of the car though its a totally different animal to the t5's

Crank has gone :-(

Piston slap will only happen to the car when cold, and sounds like main bearings have gone? what did scoobyclinic say? sorry to hear bud! thats very unfortunate :(

They just said crank has gone requiring engine rebuild

Ouch. Did it not make that sound on a test drive? Did you use 99ron fuel if you recently filled it up?

IMO it will have been sold to him like that. someone on here tried it on me with a classic. you have to listen carefully to hear it to begin with and then it goes down hill quickly from there especially when the new owner takes it out to see what the car can do.

I never heard it when I got the car, and I havent actually pushed the car at all as I'm a conservative driver, but I am gutted as the car had done about 20 miles under my ownership, luckily a fellow forum member slab is been massively helpful and I owe him many beers :-)
