BMW 335 twin turbo, TRUE mpg??
 

Lad I know wants one and swears me blind it will get 60mpg....... the salesman says so too.

Anyone had one?

Diesel? I'd still be impressed if it got above 45mpg.

Well I got a 330d and I get an average of 36-38 around town driving and when I reset the mpg function on the way down to Tenby I get anywhere between 52-55 on the gauge at the end of the run, and that's not being lazy but also not being harsh with the loud pedal, most of the run is on cruise control set anywhere between 85-100 (kph ;) )

If you proper drive it sensible i dare say it may just touch 60 :wonder: but I'm never going to see that day :lol1: its purposely to smash the miles on as an everyday practical car with the dog, and after seeing what return I get in the scoob :eek: this feels like I'm driving forever before I visit a fuel station.

But if its a petrol I would say most certainly not :lol1:

Touching anywhere near 60mpg in a 335D!!!! (under anything other than totally unrealistic conditions)....... you'll have more chance of touching the tip of Beckham's bellend! :D

People like me that do 500 miles a week care about MPG and who don't use a fuel card or able to "claim" that mileage back! :D

Not quite a 35d but a 30d auto - driven daily upto 100kph ;) and see 37-38mpg. On a good mway run cruising @85-90 kph I've seen just short of 42mpg. I would think with a steady run (very steady - driven like a fanny actually) it could get towards 50mpg.
I'm talking e90 here btw, the F30s are supposed to be another step forward in efficiency but as Shaun says, probably unlikely without perfect conditions!

So which model is he looking at?
E46, E90 or F30. You've not actually said if it is the derv we are talking about!

Like Alan Jeffrey says. I don't have a fuel card and I don't care what mpg it does really.
But seeing them sorts of miles from a 335d I don't think are possible even if you drive like a fanny.
We can rule out e46 Brun as they only made a 330d

Seeing we have a 530d GT which has the same N57D30 engine but is single VNT turbo, fitted in a car weighing two tons...that'll do 42mpg....if you do nothing but motorway driving. Take it off the motorways and its mid to low 30's. Stick it in the city and it'll do mid 20s.

So, a more powerful variant of the same engine in a lighter car? I'm guessing 5mpg difference...tops. Depending on if stop/start is enabled.

Mine is pre efficient dynamics but its low 30s to the gallon. 40 if I drive veeeery carefully. 60 would only happen down a steep hill with a tailwind.

Strictly speaking its a bi-turbo not a twin.

Good honest post there. Although, as AJ says who cares about the mpg, its a decent car.

Usually manage 400+ miles from a tank which isn't bad forc the power but all those goons claiming mega mpg are just boring. Yes it's a lot better than the similar 335i but its not great for a diesel. The 330d is generally a lot better on fuel but it only has one turbo and has electric steering which I don't like (the 335d and I are fully hydraulic).

535d admittedly but struggle to get better than 35-36 mpg (with efficient dynamics), mainly motorway in the week and a bit of running around at weekends. However that's good enough for me, it's a quick car, comfortable for long trips, and significantly more efficient than anything equivalent to it in petrol form :D

60mpg though, no chance :lol1:

Just had a 2013 325D on loan to drive to edinburgh and back, average MPG was 45 at the most but I'm sure it would achieve a higher figure with a lighter foot than mine.

Same as Matt,I've a pre LCI (pre ED) E91,335d.Ive had mine remapped and I average 35-40 mpg.

Nearly killed me to get 37.1 out of my 2007 318d

My X5 does about 25 no matter what I do with it. That's fill up to fill up, ignoring the dash display that veers from 5 to 50 mpg!

So really, we are in la la land.

My Alpina D3 MT can hit 47 MPG on the motorway all day long.

Has anyone ever got near these BS ' combined ' figures ?!

Got a mate back home with a 2005 535d remapped to 700 Nm -- 330bhp with DPF and CAT still in.

He swears if he looks after it he can get nearly 38-40mpg.

But it falls off a cliff when he floors it...bloody fast too...

Nearly as fast as a 350bhp Newage Sti!!! Nearly being the key part!!

Quite plausible seeing a unmapped GT is 300kg heavier than a e60 and still does 40mpg :)

8 speed gearbox though...that makes a huge difference to engine revs on the motorway

I have a 335i (petrol) with the twin scroll turbo and it does just 26mpg on average mostly because I drive it like I stole it. :-o

6 speed on an 05 (same as mine, 58) :wonder:
