Subaru Impreza 2.5 WRX STI Type UK 06/56
Hi people I currently drive a classic sti but have been looking at
A Subaru Impreza 2.5 WRX STI Type UK 06/56 now what's the Opinion on these cars as I have heard mixed things about them. what are the engines like and how far can they be pushed before needing To forge the engine, the car I'm looking at has done around 55k But obviously want to hear people opinions on these car any advise would Be much appriciated regards Ben |
The standard 2.5 is pretty well known for failing, but not always.
one word of warning though is you will find them very different cars, i made the switch a couple of months back and they drive different and power delivery is different. I've got over 400 on tap (forged 2.5 build) and the way it delivers power is so different it makes it feel slower (even though its running considerably more power lol). Its alot smoother and progressive delivery. 2.5 is realy nice engine to drive though, plenty of low down torque for pootling around town. It's def built more solidly and less in your face than a classic. I use mine as a daily drive so wanted the best of both comfort vs performance. Fits the bill well for that, but it isn't as raw a drive as my classic was. |

The gearbox is the weak area good for around 350 depending on driving style, I love my Wrx but to be fair it's had a lot of money spent on it so its far from a normal Wrx.

Thought the sti uk hawk eye would of come with a 6speed rather than
A 5 speed I have up with 5 speed boxs in my classic after blowing 12 of them so switched to ppg, and I have drive my friends blob eye and that was so much diffrent to my Classic like you say so much smoother, but what kind of power are the engine capable of On a uk sti hawk before they are pushed to hard and need forgein |

Not sure thats true, I know a few running 450+ without issues and im at 400+ touch wood (pats head lol). Hawker 5 speeds seem to be a bit better than previous models.

The 06 is the early headgasket so just keep in mind that if it hasnt already been done then it potentially will do, apart from that they are grand. Loads of info on them. I also had the initial worries when contemplating changing which i did in feb there. Luckily mine already has the headgaskets done. 350bhp supposedly on stock internals. All 2.5 sti come with dccd 6 speed and have no issues worth mentioning
Car itself is a far nicer place to be than a classic tho as stated not as raw tho if forging most of the issues are non-issues |
So 400 and you will be pushing the engine to it's limits ??
|
Yes! head gasket is the 1st thing to check.
