Will I Get A Ticket?

Parked up in a parking bay, went to get a ticket (called in shop cos I had no change) 3 mins later a warden was taking my number. Will I get a parking fine?

You get 5 minutes, unless you're somewhere particular special

You must of been longer, as don't they have to wait 5 mins to give you a chance to come back?

probably just checking and recording your arrival time.

Noting your number - then they will return in 15 minutes, if you're still without a ticket you will get done ............... you're fine!

Probably this.

Saw it happen when I was waiting opposite a council car park...Woman parked her car and left, but didn't buy a ticket. Warden came in a van, checked car, took picture of car with a camera. Then went and sat in the van.

Five minutes later he gets back out of the van, takes another picture of the car and slaps a ticket on the screen.

Fair enough I thought...but him waiting in the van really narked me though.

This is most likely. At the car park outside my work, the parking attendant does this at various points of time during the day. It's not just a case of noting down the reg with the sole intention of putting a ticket on, it is written proof that he is actually doing regular checks of the car park.

I know some wardens can be twats, but I think most are just out doing their job and are reasonable when it comes to giving a bit of leeway.

If all he did was take note and no ticket was put on at the time, I wouldn't worry.

If there was no ticket on your vehicle when you returned then you will not get a fine.

Worst case scanrio is the little Hitler wrote the ticket but didnt get it on to your vehicle. They may say they did and you may get a notice of non-payment but these days they have to provide evidence the ticket was on the vehicle.

They generally do this via a photograph. No photograph no fine although you can end up having to fight it ..... it can be a right pain in the ar5e to do so and you can end up wasting more money than the ticket cost in fighting it as certain councils have a policy of lying until the last minute (Manchester is one) and then not turning up at the tribunal to present their evidence.

You can't claim costs as the tribunal doesn't allow it. The whole thing is one big scam sponsored by the government!

As above, they take your number plate and give you so long to get a ticket, ive seen them a few times doing this at a local car park...
There is a 20min max stay car park near me and the guy the warden that seems to go there is a righ one!, must be on commission!!

shooter007 18 April 2013 11:49 AM

Thanks for all replies, do they still put tickets on windscreens, I thought they came through the post.

Fleetster 18 April 2013 01:11 PM

Yes they put the stickers on, the ones from a camera come through the post.

I would have expected to see a ticket on your screen.

If you do get a fine I should go to the council parking section with your ticket etc and explain the situation politely. I would be surprised if they did not let you off.
