Bought a chair through Ebay, arrived damaged

Seller wants me to pay return postage, was described as new but was dirty and repackaged and a metal item inside cut the cover of the chair. Have quoted distance selling regulations 3.57 and await response, return postage is £33.59 inc VAT on parcel2go. Cost of the item £129.99 + £20 postage. Seller offering refund of £149.99 when returned.

Any suggestions of cheaper online courier services that are tracked?

Found parcelmonkey. Will update if it actually arrives LOL.

How did you pay? If by paypal open a dispute you will win as the buyer always does you will be refunded the money in full and its up to the seller to arrange collection of the seat, why should you be out of pocket when its the sellers fault

By PayPal. I will consider opening PayPal dispute as well. Opened a case on ebay and above was the outcome, it seems Ebay try to put the responsibility and cost to return onto the buyer but this is not what their own guides and DSR say. I know there are a lot of idiotic buyers on Ebay but the seller in this case didn't package properly, didn't pass on phone number for delivery to courier so they apparently had five attempts to deliver over the last few weeks but couldn't find the house so the parcel got kicked around.

did it say on the selling page that you had to pay return fee`s?

john banks 17 April 2013 09:50 AM

No, just "returns accepted". Have now received the refund of the original amount including the postage to me, and Ebay have closed the case automatically.

Seller now agreed to refund. Thanks for advice.

Lesson learned. Don't buy second hand furniture. Unless its Louis XIV

I have nothing like that ever delivered nowadays, I see couriers on a daily basis throwing items around the van stepping on them etc,

if it's big go pick it up or buy local. :thumb:

OP stated "was described as new" so seller is at fault.

Louis XIV was a sweaty b@st@rd by all accounts, so I'd steer clear of his hand-me-downs anyway :thumb:

Best not to sit in it...you might have to mend yourself!
