Revs dropping really low on tick over when headlights or fan kick in

As per the title it also cutting out at junctions when driven. This ones really got me puzzled I can't see anything amiss usually I'd check the codes but I'm running a simtec. I've changed the alternator throttle position sensor and still no joy.

Can anyone help I'm really at my wits end

It could be the map needs a little tweek. Have you cleaned the idle control valve?

Possibly bad earths? Have you checked them all and made sure they are all clean and have good contact to chassis, I think most cars "dip" a little on the revs when the fans kick in, I think its the power they demand when first kicking in.

The earths have been moved around and cleaned not cleaned the idle control valve out as as yet but I have swapped it for another unit and there was no difference. I know it's not the alternator I changed that also but it's gotta be electrical

My old X reg turbo 2000 used to do this, turned out the HKS SSQV dump valve wasn't sealing properly and car would stall when revs were low I.E when putting clutch down approaching a junction.

Tried cleaning idle control valve first but then was told that was pointless as its electronic.

Wasn't really to bothered with having the SSQV so I stripped it down and stretched the spring a bit, refitted and this cured the problem.

It's not just cutting at junctions the revs drop significantly when the cooling fans cut in

Turbotits 13 April 2013 09:43 PM

has it always done this since the simtek was fitted?

tyler120706 13 April 2013 09:44 PM

No simtecs been fitted nearly a year this is a recent thing why what u thinking

only theres a section in the map that picks the revs up a little when the engine is loaded with fans etc. If its been ok i dont think this is your problem. Any other work been done to the car?

tyler120706 14 April 2013 09:46 AM

Yes I changed the inlet manifold swapped everything over from the old one to the replacement

Turbotits 14 April 2013 09:49 AM

Ah ok. Id guess it has an air leak. Did you use the same fuel pressure reg?

Theres a great specialist company around here that will be able to sort your problem out.

Could it just be a Maf not working as well , i had same sort of issue on a classic , try cleaning the Maf or do a swap with some one, I did not see the age of your car it's looks newer so Maf may not be cheap try cleaning it first
