WRX UK300 blobeye
Hi guys,
Another potential Impreza question. I'm going to look at a 53 reg Impreza WRX (UK) tomorrow. Very low miles, FSSH and excellent condition. When I've done the HPi and insurance its coming up as a UK300, fine by me but it doesn't have the blue seats and until I see if it has the plaque inside just wondered if the UK300 came in blobeye. Also has a prodrive exhaust so wondered where the prodrive plaque might be. Thanks again |
UK300 was a Bugeye only, there was a WRX 300 (see brochure) which is often miss-presented as a UK300 and even miss-registered on the V5. The car should have blue seats though and a few other bits and bobs like the PPP again, see the brochure. Make sure everything that should be on the car is there if you're paying over the odds for it being a limited edition.

Thanks for that, I found the brochure and other spec details online but thats what threw me, the registered model and the lack of blue seats. Its priced well, and if it is a WRX300 then priced very well.
Cheers |
Seats could easily have been removed at some point and sold, but then perhaps thats a good bargaining point because you "really wanted an original one..." ;) Just make sure the other bits are still on the car too.

did u look at that silver classic mate ?
|
No I didn't mate, he went quiet when I started asking a few questions. I think he bought it cheap not knowing about some issues and now he's passing it on. IMO

dont know if its any help, but my bug uk300 has the plaque under the ashtray, but i have seen some with them on the sun visor flap bit above the rear view mirror.
also on the intercooler if it still has the top mount, mine has a uk300 sticker. i have no idea if its a different size to a normal wrx tho, and its has the 2 blue prodrive hoses on the ic as well, and a prodrive stamped exhaust. |

LOL hence my "dont know if its any help" start to my previous post!!

Cheers for all the tips guys, if it turns out to be a standard WRX then its a good price. However if it turns out to be a WRX 300 then its a steal. Will find out in the morning.

Been doing a bit more research and it seems the WRX300 didn't come in until 2005, the car I'm going to look at is a September 2003 and registered as a WRX UK300 on the logbook, HPI and insurance but these were apparently only on the bugeyes. Confused but intrigued, don't want to ask the seller too many questions as he may realise its worth more as a limited edition.

I have a few exterior and a couple of interior photos. Not the highest resolution but I can make out some form of decal under the WRX badge. The interior looks like a normal WRX but can't quite see where the plaque would be. He mentions the Prodrive exhaust in the ad and a "damp valve" :wonder:
I've check the mileage against old MOT's and DVLA records and there are no discrepancies other than the fact it looks like it was off the road for a few years. Maybe it was mis-registered or maybe someone has robbed the seats out. Either way if its a standard WRX with this low mileage I'm happy, anything more is a bonus. I know may way around Imprezas now so will be on the lookout, will also take down my diagnostic laptop and check it over. |
Good luck with the viewing then mate, be interested to hear what the outcome is!

Out of curiosity do UK300 find there cars cheaper to insure. My quote on this car was a good £200 cheaper than a normal WRX and only £60 more than my Mini. |

As long as it doesn't turn out to be a mechanical lemon I'll be brining it home so will start a new thread tomorrow night with some nice high res pics.

I'm with Adrian Flux, 32 full no claims and it came in at just over £400. Cheaper than any classic I've enquired about and my old Terzo. Seems the newage ones are cheaper to insure all round as I had a few quotes on newage STI's and they were no more than £600.

Im insured through compare the market with 1st choice insurance. For me fully comp, it was £260, £20 cheaper than the puma i px'd for it!!!
But by the time you add on a few other bits it was just over £300 but limited to 6k miles a year. Im 32, 8 years ncb. |
