If anybody is interested the Anthony Betts dealership in Milton Keynes is terminating their Subaru franchise. The Sales Director told me on the day I picked up my STi Uk. He warned me I'll probably have to get my 1000 mile service done elsewhere.

Its strange he didn't tell until after I handed over the keys to my part exchange and the cheque.

Cheers, Ian.

I got a letter from the former local dealer ship near me this morning. They say they had to drop their franshise due to a drop in sales.

I can recommend Adams in Aylesbury, did not buy the car from them but after sales service is excellent. Car has regular visits every two or three months for it's main services.

For the minor services they will do the car while you wait or you can walk into Aylesbury to do a little bit of shopping. Major services they are always willing to provide a car when given a few weeks notice.

Can't say I'm surprised. When I went in there for getting an insurance quote about a month ago, there were about 40 (literally) Suzuki Ignises on the forecourt, and not one Scooby :( .

Oh well, have to try Adams next time then. Thanks for the tip.

Cheers

I've always found Fenny Compton (nr Banbury) worth the trip.
(Apart from the Justy loan car)

Who gave who notice is a matter of some debate. I was told about this 4 or 5 weeks ago, and was told they gave IM notice back in November. However, as I understood it, dealerships have to give 2 years notice, so it's not too clear.

On the odd occasion I had to use them they were very helpful, but I always prefered to use Listers as much as possible.

Shame they're going though.

I've used them for my servicing and they were pretty good as well as for warrenty stuff too. I'll be using Oakly again or even Adams and suffer the wrath of Suzanne (I dared to buy my second turbo from another dealer) ;) I'll miss the young reception laydee as well.

I thought it was strange when all the stock dissapered and when I enquired they replied that they couldn't get stock quick enough. They'd built a new show room and everything.

I wonder if the P1 thing killed them, they bought up all the remaining stock which took quite a while to turnover.

I heard a slightly different story, that is that it was IMs decision to terminate...

Flat 4x4 18 May 2002 11:20 PM

I would have thought that any decent garage worth their salt could make money out of a Subaru franchise ?

How much does one cost anyway ?

jmd156 18 May 2002 11:27 PM

Seven figures  from what I've heard

If you look down fenny stratford high street, Deap leap are opening a subaru dealership opposite the Toyota garage, end of this month I think :)

I heard that ab wanted to make 2k profit per carand did not !! I enquired when I brought my P1 and thats why I went to Beechdales in Derby (and I get my servicing done there - great blokes :))
Hopefully Dear Leap are more sales friendly

Simo

Do you reckon they'll have the 2 old guys from the original Dear Leap garage? LOL.

You must be talking about the old Marcos garage?

It's good news, it's even closer to me.

I'll probably be going to Adam's for servicing etc. I bought my last 2 cars there and their service dept is pretty good. Either did it while I waited for the 6 monthy ones or they picked up and returned. The car always came back clean and with no problems.

I'm not so enthused with their sales dept though.

Reason I didn't get my STi there were several:-

- When I bought my last car from them they didn't even put enough petrol in it to get me home. Salesman's helpful comment while he was showing me the controls was "don't let it run too long as its a bit short of petrol.... but there is a garage next door".
Its only a little thing but it didn't half p*** me off.

- I put my name down as an interested party for a new STi with Adams in December and again in January but nobody got back to me.
I figured if they didn't want my money I'd look elsewhere.

- At Betts I only had to wait 4 weeks from puting my deposit down to picking up the car because it was already on order for use as their demo, which they obviously didn't need.

Cheers, Ian.

I had the same problem with Adams, no fuel put in the new car which I thought was a bit cheap, considering that I had paid list price for it back in '99. I also don't get called for new test drives or days out that they do as I probably don't spend enough money with them.... I agree that their servicing was good though if a little pricey.

I bought my second from Oakly - very helpful and did the right deal.

Not sure about the third, maybe Dear leap?

I bought my car from adams - they left me with enough petrol to get me back to hemel - yes 17 miles !

I switched to AB in MK and had most excellent service - I was very disappointed to hear they were shutting down - managed to get my front drivers window done b4 they did.

Whats all this about another dealer starting up in fenny stratford ?

I'm going to need a cam belt in august - and dont want to pay Adams - as they seemed to be a rip off and love themselves too much.

I think you'll find that the new "Deer Leap" setup in Fenny Stratford will be under a franchise owned by a certain "Adam's Group'

Flat 4x4 22 May 2002 08:35 PM

That garage in Fenny Stratford has gone through a lot of ownership changes in the last few years. Is there such a thing as an unlucky building ?!

I don't think there's much workshop space is there ?
