Toffee wheel. or just a decent glue remover such as tardis

CharlySkunkWeed 06 April 2013 08:11 PM

Heat them up before you pull the letters off , leaves less sticky foamy stuff .

Emmaroids 06 April 2013 08:12 PM

rub the badge in cheese and heat in up with a hairdryer.
it wont get the badge off but it makes a tasty snack

YoungY25 06 April 2013 08:16 PM

Dental floss can be handy to get in behind the badges to the adhesive.
Then just tar and glue remover and some elbow grease :thumb:

Defo use a hair drier to heat the glue up. My old man pull a vinyl sticker off the MX5 hardtop and it brought the paint with it.

Emmaroids 06 April 2013 09:03 PM

lol what sort of man owns a hair dryer.

oh a gay one ;)

Blue and Gold 06 April 2013 09:11 PM

I used dental floss to get the Subaru lettering off my mates bug then just some serious elbow grease to get rid of the adhesive afterwards :thumb:

Chrisdane 06 April 2013 09:27 PM

I used dental floss then ordinary car polish/wax to remove the gunk - simples.
Easier if done on a warm day or in full sun or after warming with hair drier.
I think it looks much tidier although I decided to leave my SUBARU letters still on :-)

Best way I have found is to heat up with a hairdryer and then lift with fingernails after getting a piece of floss underneath.

Best way to remove the glue is with WD-40.

Be careful not to scratch your car paintwork lifting the badge.

4evernewbie 06 April 2013 10:46 PM

As said - hairdryer.
Also, a product called "Sticky Stuff Remover" is excellent!
I think I last got some from Halfrauds but generally great stuff to keep in the garage :thumb:
Paul.

Lol good point I got one but its broken ,never worked come to think of it .

I used hairdryer, floss then peeled them off carefully. Got all the adhesive off with wd40. Somehow there are small chips out of paint around the edges of the letters. So now ive got subaru letters for good! I don't know how it happened. I was told maybe the letters had been lacquered over?

JamesDundee 07 April 2013 09:44 AM

I had the Chips found the edge when debadging a previous car. As I was peeling the letter off the bottom edge dug in to the paint

Glued mate just spray carb cleaner on them they come off easy then, I tried one with wd40 was a lot harder.

powerwrx 12 April 2015 09:44 PM

Is carb cleaner OK on the paintwork

cookstar 12 April 2015 09:47 PM

I used bug and tar remover. :thumb:

Yardz 13 April 2015 05:04 AM

I used a combo of carb cleaner for the stubborn bits and McGuires paint cleaner for the rest. Hot sunny day makes the world of difference too

Ryanj1993 13 April 2015 10:32 AM

Heated mine with a heat gun then used wd40 to remove most gunk and polished the rest off with auto glym :)

DutchKev 13 April 2015 02:01 PM

Acetone free nailvarnish remover works a treat or a toffee wheel
