newbie having midlife crisis
Afternoon Wales!
I'm a total newbie thats contemplating a first Scooby purchase after many years of wanting one. The young ones are now grown up so "wey hey"! I know nothing about them, so firstly is there any kind members that would consider assisting with purchase advice (would pay for time etc). Secondly, anyone have a decent car for sale??? Budget is to around 4k, prefer a classic (unless someone suggests otherwise). Dont mind some simple mods but not into boy racer. Thanks in advance all Dave:notworthy |
If your having a mid life crisis your in the right place :D
Welcome by the way :thumb: Are you looking for standard or modded ? There's a lot to choose from so I would certainly do your research first that's for sure.... Maybe you would consider calling into the monthly meet that way you can have a look and a chat first hand. |
Cheers for the above and great advice regarding the monthly meet :thumb:
Where & when??? I'll be the old sad act in a SEAT :cuckoo: Dave |
This is the one I go to....

If anyone fancies a beer and advice chat one sunny(?) evening Keen to learn.. |
Hi Dave welcome along, as Simon sss said there's a few of us in your neck of the woods and I for one have met many friends from being on this forum and foursome reason keep buying suburus then sell try something new but then come back so your not alone we've all been there. If you want your money spent, your in the right place good luck.

Welcome to the forum Dave,
I must caution you though before you take the red pill and enter the rabbit hole that is Subaru membership - they are highly addictive. Most people on here have had more than one and when you finally decide to sell up and move on you realise with horror that you too have become addicted and cannot live without one. Or perhaps not:lol1: Seriously though - they are addictive. |
cheers all & thanks for the welcome:thumb:
A scoobys been a long time coming due to wife/house/family etc. Now, even the wife is saying 'just get one'...weyhey! I've also been looking at the RX8 which on paper looks like a stunning car? 231bhp rear wheel drive Good looks (a bit of a marmite car I guess) Dare I say a much nicer interior? Thoughts gents (be gentle!) |

Thoughts gents (be gentle!) They are thirsty on fuel (in comparison to an Impreza I don't know, but he did say they weren't the best on fuel) They can use a lot of oil and it's vital that they don't run too low They don't hold their money too well (Impreza's are hardly the best either) They can be expensive when they go wrong and the engine will definitely require a rebuild at some point (again this could be said for Impreza's as well) Apart from that he said they were not too bad, there are good and bad points to all car marques. :) |
Hmm similar traits I guess!
Interestingly visited the Mazda dealer to see if they had any in (didnt really expect to find any cos they stopped 4-5 years back I think. Spoke with the sales guy who said they wont have them on them on the forecourt as they are to problemattic to risk selling! Definately a marmite car though. I like them & the interior is superb. |
I sold a Mazda rx8 for a Impreza best choice i made the rx8 is nice but you cant beat a impreza
|
now thats interesting and just what im looking to hear!
You're reasons for that conclusion? |
Like you said the rx8 have a fantastic interior and it was much better than my scubby but that's it they lack power i had mine re mapped exhaust ect just didn't make much difference the Impreza is much more fun to drive and finally parts yes megga bucks clutch cheapest i found was 400 coil pack 150 and not many garages will touch them i used over to 5l bottles of oil in 6months and i was spending 80 a week in fuel in my Impreza same journey om using 40 tops
|
Hi Dave welcome aboard! Have you driven one or been a passenger in one as yet? Getting behind the wheel will tell you if the car is for you. I never had much interest in the impreza and only took one for a test drive to see what the fuss was all about, a couple of miles into the test drive and i was planning on buying one. Over 7 years of ownership and i am still hooked, i have never owned a car so long!
They are very addictive as many have said but also expensive to run and that is something to keep in mind. That said, if its a weekend toy then the costs are not that bad. Get test driving and i am sure there are plenty on here who will be happy to scare the hell out of you with a passenger ride!! Ian |
Cheers for the above guys. Interesting on the RX8 which i'm slowly moving away from.
I have driven an early 'L plated' import which belonged to my daughters boyfriend at the time. Unfortunately this consisted of a few miles down the motorway & not the best demonstration I'm sure.. If anyone is fairly close to Chepstow, would like to pop by for a free coffee and a chat with maybe a demonstration (would be more than happy to pay for fuel), just say! I'd travel to you if thats easier etc. I'm free most evenings, I'm here to learn & also be tempted to the dark side!:thumb: |
I have a scooby my son a rx8 ,the rx8 drinks petrol worse than scooby .There is no comparison in the cars Scooby in another league
|
I know i'm on a Subaru forum so i guess no one is actually going to plug the RX8 lol, but you've sold me on the idea! Now to find one? Anyone know of any nice ones for sale down this neck of the woods?
Seen this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Imp...item19da47dbe0 which has a few scuffs here & there etc the bonnet bulge paint is 'sheite' & back arch is rusting! That being said it had some expensive tyres on & Piaa wipers etc which would indicate that it had been looked after etc The garage owner would also not let me drive which was off putting for a garage that sells performance cars. |
The UK300 was a limited edition WRX with UK300 seats and decals and a few other body mods. If I am right it came from the factory fitted with PPP (Prodrive Performance Pack) which was a generic re-map and prodrive exhaust taking power to about 265bhp. Nice car but you do pay a premium for the UK300 badge. You can pick up a simularly modified WRX for less money and less miles without the badge but the UK300 is quite exclusive.
Below is a reasonably close example and as long as the service history checks out it could be a good one. There are loads out there like this one and better for your money. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...ge/1?logcode=p |

Right chaps, if you knowledgeable ones stumble across a decent car please give me a nod via PM.
I've had a think about my requirements. Budget to 4k (plus abit if pushed), prefer UK car, prefer classic Mica blue/gold combo, but even those would go out the window for the right car. Dont mind modded etc as long as its not go faster stripes! Thats about it really, prefer clean & tidy over ultimate power etc. Thanks again for all your kind advice. Dave_T p.s. If there are any super kind dudes or dudetts out there that would be prepared to check out possible cars I would be willing to pay for time etc. |
