Yeh thats fine, You got a 8mm hex socket as you`ll need one to get the old plug out

CharlySkunkWeed 04 April 2013 06:50 PM

Yeah mate , will venture that road when i get the adaptor.

alcazar 04 April 2013 08:59 PM

You need a long reach Allen key, or similar, and it wants to be quality, because that sucker is usually in tight.

CharlySkunkWeed 04 April 2013 10:06 PM

Have a screwdriver type and a socket set type and allen keys and i will be taking the i/c out just to be sure :)

The Pink Ninja 05 April 2013 02:38 AM

You`ll need to,lol, Like Alcazar says you will need a long extension with an 8mm socket on and even then they can be a pig to get, You wont get it out with just small leverager down where it is, I use a 1/2" ratchet/socket and even then they can be very stiff.

What did you use to "seal" the adaptor ? Have PTFE tape , or is that not advised ?

The Pink Ninja 05 April 2013 12:21 PM

Its what i have used over the years and never had any issues, Dont use electrical tape though as some guy did one here years back and fooked a 15K engine build :lol1:

alcazar 05 April 2013 01:15 PM

On mine, I went out and bought an 8mm T-handle socket. I then pleced a 24mm ring spanner over the T...plenty of torque there, but it "cracks" when it comes out...scared me to death.

PTFE tape is fine, don't go mad, wind it about 8 times. Too much and the oil sender can't earth.

Happy days , thanks lads.

Not that i would , but what happened ?

alcazar 05 April 2013 04:42 PM

Dropped into the engine and blocked an oilway?

CharlySkunkWeed 05 April 2013 06:49 PM

Woopsie !

I'll be xtra careful !

The Pink Ninja 05 April 2013 08:47 PM

Yeh was something like that, They guy spent a fortune at pennine subaru years back with fully forged everything then bought a set of gauges and tried to fit them himself...When the engine was stripped there was bits of tape everywhere but he swore blind it was their fault for building it wrong :lol1:

Job done.

Thanks for A - that i needed an 8mm hex as i couldnt tell if i had one that fitted until after i had took the strubrace and I/C off. Turns out i didnt so at least i new what to look for when i took the van to Halfords. Just aswell as i would never had got it out with a allen key , it was a socket job.

And B - the heads up on the "crack" it made comming off ! Even when i expected it i still near pooped a brick !
