New Owner and 1000 mile Service?

Hi All,

Wanted to say hi as i have recently joined the fold and have been lurking on here for the last month or so.
I am the proud owner of my first Subaru having picked up my new four door STI on the 1st March. To say i'm loving it is an understatement. Not my first experience of Subaru as my dad is on his second WRX and my mother in law(yes!) had a '98 wagon back in the day.

I'm not a stranger to performance cars but few things are so capable and so versatile. Having to come to terms with the fuel consumption having just spent 2 years in a diesel Audi A3 but my view is that if you can't afford to run a car properly, you shouldn't buy it in the first place!! I will post some pics once i get them off the camera.

Anyway, my question is this: I see that they no longer specify a 1000 mile oil change on the new cars. Would it still be a worthwhile exercise to do so, or are the oils they are now using good enough to leave it until 10,000 or a year?

Thanks,

Matt

Personally I would change the oil for peace of mind. So many oil companies call there oil long life because the longer its in your sump, the more time they have to find somewhere to put it. Only my opinion but as I say, I would just to know its as good as it can be :)

Definatley change it, especially in a performance engine. Tiny metal fragments slushing about for 12 months/12000 miles isn't what I'd choose.

I had a 1K service carried on on my 330S when I bought it.
Dealer didn't charge me any labour either, just the parts.

Yeah, I'd change it.
I have a 2006 STI from new and change the oil at least every 5000.
I do it myself though as it ain't difficult and I like doing it.
Good quality oil only cost about half a tank of gas, so why not?

Cheers guys, glad I was thinking along the right lines. Fortunately my next door neighbour owns a garage so a ramp makes it a lot easier.
