07 RenaultSport Megane 225 - BIG engine problem

Brother in law has just been on the blower telling me of how his engine let go in a BIG way on the motorway this afternoon. Huge bang and total loss of power. When he checked, he has a hole in the block the size of a fist and a conrod popping out to say hello:freak3:

Early indications are of some sort of oil pump failure (though it's too early to tell). He says the cambelt etc seems in order. The thing is, he also says he got hardly any notice(which seems strange if it is oil pump?). Oil light on for about 5 seconds and then bang. Certainly too little notice to save it.

So......to my point, any ideas on where to source the new engine / rebuild parts from. They're not exactly as common as scoobs and he doesn't fancy paying main dealer prices.

Just bought an r26 megane myself love the thing, engines are supposed to be very reliable in standard guise had it been mapped/messed with??
Have a look at engine dynamics website am sure they could sort you out..

I think when the oil light comes on its basically game over and telling you to drive straight to scrapyard

Biggest problem with the 225 is that they have a Renault engine fitted :D

If its had a full service history would it be worth approaching Renault? No 2007 engine should go pop like that.

Thanks. No it hadn't been mapped or played with; FSH including one very recent £350 service (which I'm more than a little suspicious of).

It sounds to me if the belt hasn't gone, that the biggest suspect might be oil starvation of some description. I think a poorly threaded sump plug or oil filter might feature in the final analysis, but I doubt he'll be able to prove it - it's gone back to the garage that did the service for inspection and I doubt they'll admit to any poor servicing.

If you need any engine work speak to Fred at btm , just built me an engine for my 172 rally car and it goes very well.
He came well recommended on cliosport.net

Hi there

Sorry to hear that, but usually those rods or pistons doesn't take more than 270-300bhp and 270-320lb-ft,on the Megane sport forums there is thread about this

We are have before 225 F1,but at the end we are sold this, just due cost of the running this has been than our wagon which at this time run 490bhp

About the recommendations for rebuild, speak to Engine Dynamics

http://www.engine-dynamics.com/Engin...gineBuilds.asp

If your brother thinking to run more power I would strongly recommend forged pistons and rods

Yes K-TEC are good, but they're expensive or you can try RS Tuning, which have good name in the Renault forum
