Could any let me know if i am looking at the correct sensor? I always have the code for camshaft position sensor.

Yes that is the cam sensor, its probably best replaced rather than cleaned though, wont harm to try though.

Thanks jay. Can It be tested with a multimeter and do you know how difficult it is to remove, it looks pretty tight in there
|
Once you unplug it there is room... just, its held in place with a 10mm or 8mm bolt cant remember now, plug looks very oily, could try cleaning it all, but they are quite common to fail. new genuine ones can be bought from www.importcarparts.co.uk much cheaper than a dealers.

Ok thanks i will give it a go at weekend. Looks like the website u mentioned are out of stock. If cleaning it dont work i will give them a call
|
.........is that a bugeye?
Shaun |
Yeh its a bug. Ive read that its a common fault
|
Yep, Common fault as the ECU mis-reads the sensor at high revs. Cleaning can help as the signal changes slightly and the ECU is happier.
Or don't get anywhere near the red line :) Shaun |
OK thanks shaun. Whats the method for cleaning, or is it Just electrical cleaner job. Im also strugglin with my engine drinking petrol like its going out of fashion any ideas.
|
Maybe the petrol consumption is linked to the position sensor error that occurs at high revs :D
Unmapped bugs can be thirsty as they do run quite rich. is yours an STi or WRX, I'm guessing WRX as the WRX DENSO ECU does have a habit of throwing spurious CELS :) Clean with a little thinners should suffice. Shaun |
Its a non turbo, thats y i can notice the fuel consumption so much. My insurance want an extra 700 for a wrx as i was only 23 wen i got the scoob.
|
...........I had to wait until I was 42 for an impreza lol
The N/A cars are also thirsty to combat det and for some cooling. Also the bug was the first "world" car so had to run a bigger range of fuel under worlwide conditions. Running richer is safer :) Being a "World" car it also had to run high on the springs for increased travel and for space for snow chains etc. Might have a MAF going off ? Shaun |
just changed the maf as that code was also showing. When I fist got the car it would do 300 to a tank now im lucky to get 200. Hopefully cleaning the camshaft sensor will help, thanks for the help guys :thumb:

You can check the resistance of the sensor while it's out, it should be between 950 ~ 1,250 ohms at room temp.
