im thinking it dont work with my car...

As far as i'm aware and i'm sure i'll be corrected if i'm wrong but you have to use a tactrix cable, think they are available from the states.

any of the ebay VAG obd leads will work for diagnostics, but as mentioned if you wanted to alter the ecu rom image you would need a Tactrix cable.

cheers guys im goin to go for a VAG.com lead thn.... as i only want it to see and clear codes.

The tactrix cable works, even the old ones.

The old Ecutek Deltadash cable works with it for code reading.

And a few other ODB cables.

The vag cable from ebay works fine for reading codes and data logging, mine cost me about 6 quid

If you want to remap you can modify your vagcom cable... do some googling :D

It needs to be that blue one they show, I got mine off ebay, the soldering is a little tricky but worth the effort. The software for logging and reflashing (including map editing) is romraider. Theres a lot of info on there site on how to learn todo it, I use this cable to reflash mine to tweak my map, I've also got a copy of the ppp wrx map aswell. You dont need the flash plug thats mentioned as u can bridge it with 2 paper clips. If I remember theres a small update to the design in them forum threads with changing to 12 power

dan-lincs 31 March 2013 12:29 AM

Just noticed it shows v2 at the pics for the 12v so do as it shows, I do suggest u read up on the romraider site on learning what you u need 2 change and why in the maps.

Just a word of warning too reflashing CAN go wrong do dont blame me if it does worst case is you need a new ecu cos u bricked it, or you blow your engine due to too much boost or not watching for knock and melt a piston. Lots and lots of reading! A wideband is also worth having but if your not pushing it hard I.e. targeting a afr of 11.3 or close you should be safe (ish). But again thats why we log.

I just used cheap vag com cable to read. Make sure cable chipset appears in device manager when connected. Ecu explorer you need to go to bottom left and right click connection and select an option. Wont dump memory if has been ecuteked in past.

I will be doing a lot of research before I consider re flashing.
I'm on the generic sti ppp map at the moment and my goal would be smoothing that out to a safe optimum.
Data logging and small adjustments I guess.
I hope to see more posts on the subject as people become more confident in the uk with diy O/S mapping.
It seems quite big in the usa and loads of base maps on romraider.

Can you still map an ecutekked Ecu with rom raider?
I.e say I had an Ecu with an ecutek map on it, but would love to have a play with romraider. Would this be possible, or no?

If is yours ECU have EcuTek licence you can still use RomRaider for logging etc.
For mapping(over EcuTek) you will need different program which will allow you to do map over EcuTek licence

I have year 2000 so cant map anyway only read/ log, awaiting esl release.

Dont think youd be able to self tweak ecutek as they are locked to dealers. You could always sell ecutek and get standard ecu but you would be starting from scratch. Believe some of the professionals are using open source now. if you wanted a base setup to work from im sure they would do it if asked, under strict guidance that there would be no comeback if you then altered.

Thanks chaps! Data logging on its own would be good enough, tbh
