4 pot help please - GF8 Turbo 2000
Hi all.
I bought my wagon with a 4 pot front conversion and Goodridge hoses. Today, I had some unusual vibrating, then driving up a hill I noticed a significant loss of power...and the car not really feeling good. When I pulled up, the front brakes were stinky hot on both sides. I took it to my mechanic who freed up a few of the pistons and the car feels good again. The discs are rusty and lipped...so I want to replace them, and the pads. Question is what is the spec of the 4 pots, and also the pads. I am a fan of plain discs and half decent pads. I don't cane the car so I don't need super duper pads etc. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. J |
The problem will come back with the calipers so they need doing before fitting new discs and pads , if not the calipers dragging will overheat the discs and warp them.
The problem lies with the pistons rusting , and changing them is the only way of curing it. All the subaru 4 pot calipers are the same , bar the later ones having the word subaru being a sticker , and on earlier cars it being cast into the caliper body. We can supply you stainless steel pistons and a new seal kit , or reconditioned calipers on an exchange basis , and also various discs and pad set ups Cheers Ian 01656 723060 |
Hi Ian.
What's the price for a refurb kit please? J |
We offer 8 stainless steel pistons and a seal kit for a pair of calipers for £109.99
Cheers Ian |
Cheers Ian.
How simple is it to refurb the calipers? Cheers. J |
Simple: take them off and send them to Ian.....
But if you can remove them, they are simple enough to refurb using Ian's kit. |
All is there a how to guide for refurb. I need the car and as my wife uses the civic now, I have to to it myself.
Cheers. J |

Is it a must to get the stainlesss pistons? I'm on a budget hence the question. J |
Stainless will save you doing them again in a few years, they aren't that much more expensive.
|
Yes j stainless is the way to go if you want a fit and forget.SJ.

Have a look at my public album and you can see what's on my wagon. Godspeed are excellent with a quick turn-a-round and I for one can recommend them for brakes.

Cheers Ian 01656 723060 Just out of interest, what was changed in the later callipers? Thanks, Neil |
as per my answer you have quoted , they went from an embossed calipers to a sticker for the Subaru logo , everything else on the caliper is identical
Cheers Ian |
Thanks Ian.
I thought you were implying that they changed something else. Cheers, Neil |
