Alarm going off when bat is drained.. HELP!
 

i am having a problem with my alarm. i firstly thought it was my battery so i changed it but now 2 weeks later after not driving my 2000 bugeye wagon the alarm went off due to bat being drained?? could this be down to my boot/bonnet sensor? if not how can i find out what the fault is?

generally the alarms working voltage is from about 9v to 15 volts approx
below 9v the alarm may see power below 9v as an attempted sabotage on the cars battery ie removal and is triggering alarm in its own battery back up
what you need to address is what is draining the vehicles battery to only last 2 weeks
this is your main priority

cheers Ian. not too clued up on the electric side of things. is there anything i could do myself to try and determine this problem without a good understanding of the electrical components?? or would u advise seeking professional help?

So the car has been sat for 2 weeks without being used. Thus the clock, the radio and any other electrics that require a permanent feed to retain their memory will have flattened the battery. The subaru has quite a small capacity battery fitted so for arguments sake lets say it is a 50 Ampere Hour (AH) battery, this means that a discharge current of 1 amp will drain the battery to it's end point voltage (approx 7.2v) in 50 hours (just over 2 days). So even if the discharge current is only 0.2 amps the battery will be discharged within the 2 weeks.
I have a battery charger/ maintainer which I leave connected and switched on whilst my car is sat in the garage. The output voltage is perfectly safe and will not damage any of the electronics. I think it is about 13.5 volts. Otherwise I need to put it on charge once a week to stop the alarm sounding.

Drive it, or disconnect the battery.

Could always get a solar panel from Maplins for about £20. This will trickle charge the battery.
I know not a fix but might be a good idea to stop alarm going off
